But does he needs to prove his financial status on NOA2? Or am i wrong about it?

No he does not. The affidavit of support is submitted at the interview stage, not the I-129f petition stage. He has time.

You don't have to submit anything until the embassy stage. You have several weeks. Work on new employment ASAP. No need to panic at this point.

Good luck!

Affidavit of support is required for your interview...If he is still not working, then he can get someone to sponsor him...but hope he can have new employment then he can submit pay stubs and all that...NO need to panic,

aayoub is giving you sound advice. to elaborate: you have a few options. he can, as suggested, simply get another job. he will have about two months until you guys can look to receive noa2, and a few weeks further to collect the relevant info for you to take to your interview (proof of employment, check stub history, and bank information). hopefully he can find something between now and then. if he doesn't, you can still pull it off. does your BF have family that would be willing to help out? someone who could sign on to the affidavit for support? his parents perhaps? the government is looking to make sure that you don't become a financial liability to the state when you arrive here, and that your visa sponsor is capable of supporting you. i've seen various numbers on how much he needs to show in annual salary to satisfy this requirement, but the consensus is that he doesn't have to make much. if i remember correctly, it's something like 18-20,000/yr. someone with a better grasp on it than myself can nail that number down to a more exact figure, but the point is it isn't a world-ending problem for you guys. hope springs eternal, and this is a minor bump in the road. calm down, i'm sure you guys will get it smoothed out ;)

I think this is 2016 poverty guideline

For a family of two, your fiance needs about 20K.

Even if you can't find a co-sponsor, you can extend the expiration of NOA2 for 4 months at a time.

Usually it will be extended for 4 months counting from the day you apply for extension.

I read in VJ someone extended their NOA2 for a year. So nothing to hassle!

Just be careful and take your medical exam right before your interview, because K-1 visa is valid for 6 months counting from the medical day.

Better to go through medical AFTER you are dead sure the financial requirement is met and you are ready to fly.

Good luck~~

Hello everyone!

I have the same situation.. My Fiance just finish his military service at the Marine Corps while on process of our K1 visa - waiting for NOA2.. He is now considered unemployed though like what you guys said, it is no problem as he still have time to look for a job before the interview. But we want to have a Plan B and be prepared so we have decided to get a joint sponsor which is his Uncle / Aunt.

Does it matter if it is not his immediate family member? He doesn't have a mom anymore and his dad don't meet the poverty guidelines.

Thank you !!!
