I have, and the closest is the airport to me, RDU, and not on weekends. I believe I stated that so I need to figure out more what to do.

Hi there, looks like we both have had similar issues with the POE and the I-94. We're in Cary, NC.

We arrived at JFK on our way to Raleigh on April 14th. The officer accidentally entered my Filipino fiancee as permanent resident, so I was not able to pull up the I-94 online; I kept getting the "not found" response.

I called the local "Deferred Inspection" office. They explained what had happened and what we need to bring to fix it. We went there on Friday at about 10 am and had to wait for about 30 minutes. They were able to fix it on the spot and we walked out with the I-94.

The officer told us that officially the office is open until 2pm but they are there until the last AA from the UK is processed, which is about 5pm. Not sure if they still take care of other issues but it's worth a call.

Maybe they can take are of your situation without you having to take a day off.

On Monday we'll attempt to apply for a SS number, that should be fun too :)

Thanks Kay!

We only brought passport, filled ss-5, and the print out of I-94.

I keep reading that unless you will be working, they might refuse to issue a ss number, because it is not needed for most transactions, like banks, credit cards...I know I need the EAD before she can work, but I want to get the SS number now, just in case we need it.

So, what reason do I give them, should they ask, for what I want the SS number for?

Did anyone here have to bring reasons or explain anything?

thank you

You can ask for one because is the LAW!!!

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

They don't have to give you one because they think you need one or not. A country have laws and they in the SS just have to follow them, like any other citizen.

You need SSN to take a drive licence, the letter for SSN was nice to have to make proof of address too, and I need that one to join my wife bank account.

A K-1 entrant is a 'legal alien allowed to work'. That is what you mark on the application. You do not have to give a reason for wanting the SSN. If your I-94 is still valid, with more than 2 weeks left before it expires, then you can use it and your passport with the K-1 visa in it to get an SSN. If your I-94 is no longer valid, then you would have to wait for the EAD. You do not need the EAD first if you just entered with the K-1 and the I-94 is valid. You want it because you are allowed to apply and receive one. You should have no need to explain why you want an SSN.

Just to update, my fiancee got it taken care of over the phone. I made a call to the SSA, which proved useless because she wanted me to call the USCIS. The next day my fiancee called the SSA and after my fiancee got down telling them from being rude, got nowhere still. So, she called the ICP, Immigration Customs and Border, people things. She got a guy on the phone that was so helpful, he updated her records over the phone and now the I-94 is correct. Going to try and get her number tomorrow now.
