Hello,

I originally immigrated on a CR1 visa and had conditions removed 3 years ago... since then, my ex-wife and I divorced due insuperable differences and had an amicable dissolution, which is documented. Now I'm ready to file to become a citizen since I've continued moving up at work and have bought a home and am currently engaged to a great women with a wonderful child whom I plan to adopt very soon, but would like to have my citizenship first even as a matter of pride since I love my life here and would like to take the oath of allegiance to our constitution.

My question is, since I originally entered the country on a marriage-based CR1 visa (now IR1), do I have to base my citizenship application on that marriage at all or does it even matter? From what I can tell by reading the forms, my right to citizenship is due to my continuous resident status for 5 years and not my previous marriage... am I correct?

My plan is to only include the divorce decree and if they ask at the interview I am ready to provide any evidence necessary.
