Hello,

I am looking for some advice because I will be applying for the B2 visa to visit my boyfriend very soon.

I was an au pair last year and I stayed in USA for 5 months and I returned to Brazil 5 months ago.

I really want to go visit my bf and the only tie I have with my country is my university (studying for 3 years now, almost finishing). My mom will be paying for all my expenses since I don't have a job.

I have heard some very negative experiences when people say that they are visiting their bf/gf and I know some people even lie about it.

We want to apply for the K1 next year so this B2 would be just to spend some time with him.

Should I tell that I am visiting my boyfriend? Should I tell that I am visiting my former host family? What are your thoughts about it?

Thank you very much!

hi

first of all you always have to tell the truth

at the same time, you have slim to none chance, you have to prove that you have ties to your country, that you have reasons to return

you have no job, no income, no bank accounts, no properties and a US boyfriend

tell the truth, because if you don't, you will ruin your credibility....and that will mean that B2 visa will be a pipedream for the foreseeable future.

By telling the truth, you may or may not get the B2, but even if you do not, at least you will have told the truth, which could be helpful in many ways in the future.

Yes, some people try to avoid answering the question (if asked by the CO) and I suppose a few get away with it....but if you fail (by lying), you will forever be branded as a liar and no one will ever believe a word you say, even during a K1 interview.....just something to think about.

I have my college as a tie with my country and I do actually have a job but I don't have a contract or anything (but I could ask my boss to write a letter, I have been working there for 4 years). I work as a math tutor at a school but my income is not enough to pay for the travel expenses. I own a savings account with something around $2000 but I know it is not enough.

Thanks for your replies!

You say you have more college to do after you return- have the fees (if any) for that been paid? If this is an expensive college, ie you/ your parents are heavily invested in you returning to finish the course, it may help.

i don't think they are being negative, they are being realistic with all the parameters provided by the OP

and you are right about the J1 helping her case.
