Hello,

It's normally advised to collect the documents once you receive NOA2, that way you can get through the NVC stage as quick as is possible. I personally didn't send out the AOS and IV packages until after I paid both fees (but before submitting the DS-260), but some advise sending out the documents right after you pay the AOS fee. It takes about 7 days after the AOS fee is paid for the IV fee to become available. In our case, we never received the welcome letter so I called NVC and they reviewed the DS-261 application with me over the phone. The IV fee was available the next day. You can try that out to see if the IV fee can be available sooner.

I've pasted the NVC Process wiki below in case you haven't checked it out. It helped us greatly with the NVC stage. Also, if you haven't already join the NVC March filers forum. Lots of good info/advice on there. :)

How about you :time: so someone would be able to better understand your case and show you which documents to fill and how much to pay.

His timeline is filled in. Looks like he's filing I-130 petition (even though his "filing for" line says Adjustment of status). I assued I-130, but I could be wrong. ;)

Yes after paying the AOS fee you can send all the documents. They will not review the documents if they do not have all of them. No you do not have to wait to pay the IV fee or fill out the DS-260 to send the docs. The document review is a separate track from the IV fee.

Track 1: DS-261 -> IV Fee -> DS-260

Track 2: AOS Fee ->AOS and IV documents

When both are completed, you get a case complete!

You can of course do this:

Track 1: DS-261 -> IV Fee -> DS-260 ->AOS and IV documents

Track 2: AOS Fee

But it takes longer.

My case has been going faster than what im reading here on the forums.... I got NOA2 and then a week or so later got a letter from NVC with the bar codes and case number...logged in online and completed choice of agent, soon after i paid the fees, and just last night completed the ds261..... havent even had the time to send in the AOS/IV packet in the mail but everything online looks good. Havent had to call in to NVC once to get a case number or anything.

so now my case just sits there until i send in the packets correct? i didnt screw something up by just paying all the fee's and filling out the forms as they became available online did i?

thanks ahead of time

Nope. It just sits there, waiting on you for up to a year.

No. You have up to a year to do anything with the case before they send it to the records department.

My NVC journey took 26 days. Much shorter than now.

Hi:

I filled out the DS-261 yesterday, can I already pay the AOS bill? Or do I have to wait for 15 days from filing DS-261?

Please refer to my timeline in my signature. Thank you very much in advance.
