Christian convert hacked to death in Bangladesh

Unidentified attackers hacked a Christian convert to death in northern Bangladesh Tuesday, amid growing attacks on religious minorities by suspected Islamist militants in the Muslim-majority country.

Police said at least two attackers stopped Hossain Ali while the 68-year-old was taking his regular morning walk in the town of Kurigram and then lunged at his neck with sharp weapons.

“He died on the spot. The attackers exploded a molotov cocktail to create panic and left the scene on a motorcycle,” Kurigram district police chief Tobarak Ullah told AFP.

Ullah said Ali had converted to Christianity from Islam in 1999 but he was not sure whether the deadly attack was carried out by Islamists or if there was another motive.

“He was not a pastor or reputed Christian. Also there were some disputes over his family properties,” Ullah said.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the killing.

But in recent months militants claiming to be soldiers of ISIS have claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on converts and minorities including Shiite, Sufi and Ahmadi Muslims, Christians and Hindus.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government denies that ISIS has a presence in Bangladesh. It blames the banned homegrown militant group Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh for the upsurge in deadly violence.

Regardless of ones feelings towards religion, nobody should feel afraid to practice theirs, or not practice in the case of those who do not believe.

Happens all the time. Some Christians were shot to death on a beach at the Ivory Coast a week back while some Muslims were spared. It is directly condoned in the Koran, though.

I know it does and it's very sad. I grew up with parents who are officers in the Salvation Army. I've heard of many of their colleagues who were threatened or killed for their work in developing countries.

Personally I do believe that we can all peacefully coexist. But it won't likely happen.

I'm looking for a news story about that book being used to justify random murder and violence this year and I'm having a hard time finding it. Could you direct me there please?

How do you avoid being killed by Americans already in the country? Folks dying by the thousands already, but you want to focus on the less than 1% of murders by Muslims. Where is the logic in that?

The Book is called the Bible. It's most commonly in the news being thumped by politicians, but used on occasion for killing abortionists, justifying racism, and beating up or attacking Muslims, drinking large quantities of poison Kool-aid, snake handling, you name it. Perhaps try Google for stories including Christians, the Bible etc?
