Example of request for Expedition please?

Hi guys and gals,

We are doing DCF in Athens, and we have been greatly delayed due to ONE missing document which we are turning in tomorrow.
We have several valid reasons to want to leave for the USA in June.
Can you please let me know if you think we have a "case" for expedition and if possible provide a template letter for such a request?

First of all medical. My husband (the USC) has type 1 diabetes and as he is unemployed here has no insurance. He cannot do his shots (Greece is going bankrupt and they do no provide free medical care to him). He is in immediate danger health-wise.
Second: I am a teacher, I need to be in the USA during the summer so that I can secure a teaching job and start in September.
Third: We have two little boys (his step-sons) who will be enrolled in an English Learner program that starts June 24th and it is in their best interest obviously to attend.
Fourth: There have been bomb threats in Athens (where we live) by terrorists and with the influx of refugees, the living conditions have deteriorated in the city.

Do you think these are valid reasons?
We filed in January but we got an RFE and the document we were missing had to come from another country and be translated, hence the delay.
We are otherwise paper ready to move to the next step, only missing medical and interview date.

Do you think it is even possible we get the interview schedule after approval of I-130 and be ready to leave within 10 weeks? (remember we are doing DCF as I've said)

I only see no. 1 as a valid reason. But DCF is usually fast from what I have seen..

1.I thought it had to be the usc having a medical issue but I could be wrong. Sad he has no health care, I'm american and don't have it either. My sister had it also, it's serious and I feel your concern for this. She will die without shots

4.Imagine how Palestine or syrians feel as regards to bomb threats. Those refugees ran from being bombed everyday all day long. I see no expedite for that reason.

Oh absolutely! I am a volunteer here and I help everyday to make their lives maybe a little better. It is TERRIBLE and I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for them to leave everything and run, some losing loved ones along the way. My heart goes out to them and I have tried my best to help as best I can.

What I meant was, because of the threats of bombings it is unsafe for us here.

Ok from what I read these three could possibly apply to us:

• Severe financial loss to company or ​person​;​ ---> if I am not there in time for the start of the school year, I will have no job!! So no money!!
• Emergency situation;​ ---> Terrorist threats made to our city
• Humanitarian reasons;​ ---> American husband is in need of medical treatment that will not be given here and his life in direct peril

It's like that for most of Europe right now (and other places). DCF only takes a few months and since you already are so far I think you'll get it before June if there are no issues

Thats the problem Georgia. We are not far at all. We cannot get approval of I-130 because of a missing document (but will resolve this tomorrow). We do however have gathered ALL other documents required for next step so we could submit the form for interview appointment immediately as soon as we get our I-130 approved.

Well if you give them the document tomorrow then they'll approve it very fast if all other things is good. You need to wait about the interview till you hear from them. Have you looked and see what the waiting is for interviews in Greece? I really don't think you need to worry you still have 3 months and it'll be done by then if everything is fine

That is the problem, there are VERY few Athens DCF cases so I don't know how long the interview scheduling will take?

I vaguely remember having read somewhere something about 6 weeks?

Obviously Greece is in trouble but by filing DCF you'll be dealing with the US government.

If your final document gets your I-130 approved hopefully you will get a case # quickly, it took us only 6 business days.

I didn't want to mention my medical problems in my case because I thought they may ask for proof and that might slow the process.

I have proof of a spinal injury but not my recently diagnosed stage 4 COPD so we didn't mention it.

The one time my medical was mentioned was at my wife's interview.

The interviewer asked my wife (question 4) why we wanted to go to the US and she was truthful.

The consulate officer said I shouldn't be in this country with such a condition. That was the last question.

Visa approved in 34 days from start (I-130 approval) to finish (interview).

Medical papers are not an issue we have these already.

And it is him the USC with the medical issue not me.

Well we filed January 28th and we didn't get an RFE until the 23rd February so almost a whole month just to see we were missing a paper or rather the paper we gave them was not the correct one.

So...not so quick here.

I think we will wait until we get our case # then mail them again and see what can be done.

Ps. From what I was able to gather it takes about 5 to 6 months here not really not so quick for DCF. So if we take today's date as the starting date (we turned in the paper) plus 6 months we are looking for a Visa sometime during the Fall.

Yes I understood about it being your husband the USC being the one with the medical problem.

Same with us, I'm the USC with health issues and my wife is healthy.

When we filed our I-130 the woman told me they would contact me in 30 to 90 days and that was just the I-130 so 6 days was quite a surprise. She was kind enough to go through our papers when we filed and make sure we had all we needed and there were some papers she requested that we added. I'm not sure about this paper that was missing and If you don't want to "rock the boat" you could wait a week or so and call to see where your case is but In your situation I believe I would call the consulate, make an appointment, raise a little hell and see if you can't get someone to listen to you and possibly get things expedited.

I'm not sure how far you are from the consulate or how well your husband travels but you, correction he should be able to make an appointment and go talk to a consulate officer and explain your situation.

I've been to the US Embassy / consulate several times here and only needed to go on-line and schedule an appointment. They never really asked me why I wanted to go except I remember checking "speak to consulate officer". I believe it's a right of a US citizen to do so.

Is there not a "hardship cases" at your Embassy's web site?

The only other option I know of would to be contact an immigration lawyer, maybe not for the entire process but just to see if they could help you understand the laws pertaining to hardships and how to present it to the consulate.
