No, Medicaid is a means tested benefit. What makes you think you qualify for free health insurance? Did you not read and/ or understand the affidavit of support?

Some states offer Medicaid for pregnant woman regardless of immigration status. If you are in such a state and you qualify you can get it. Note that since you are married it will consider your spouse's income, so the income may not be low enough for you to qualify.

If you continue to get Medicaid after you become a permanent resident, your spouse who did the Affidavit of Support may be liable for the costs.

honestly, folks should read what the I-864 means to their USC spouse.

Don't listen to other Camerounians who will convince you to get govt assistance. Whatever assistance you take could be coming back from your husband's paycheck .

Ask your husband to see if he can add you to his plan or you can use the healthcare marketplace to find an affordable one but don't expect anything free. Your sponsor could be made to pay whatever freebie you take from the govt. Just be aware of that.

The day after we were married I was able to add my wife to the health plan through work, By law insurance companies cannot require a SSN. They simply applied a dummy SSN number to my wife and ask that I update them once she had a SSN.

Just to add to that, they cannot require you to provide an SSN but can refuse you until you do. It's a double edged sword.

I guess it depends on the company. Mine was OK with it when I explained the K-1 and also that we had the paperwork in process for getting the work permit and therefor a Social.

Also for the OP. If you are choosing to not file the forms for a work permit you can apply for a ITIN (individual Tax ID Number). These are actually a range of special SS#'s that is allowed for these types of purposes, but not valid for working.
