Another reason to do away with Schengen. It is increasingly being discarded anyway, countries realize they need borders. But USCIS daily deals with workers, businessmen, tourists: there is as yet no great flood of snackbars coming across the border.

My hope is that before such a flood begins, if it does, Europe will have been forced to conduct an about face and we can learn from its foibles. I will still for generations though suffer for its aquiescence to date.

We have a few head in the sand types here who would rather let the wolves eat all the sheep lest the wolves accuse them of calling them wolves. I am happy to note I see very little of this kind of weakness elsewhere; comments on mainstream news sites with the most votes are all in the same vein of let's stop pretending this is a problem without a solution.

This raises another hypocrisy. I have seen many people hold these two beliefs:

1) nothing special about Islam as far as an inspiration for terrorism is concerned; no different than other belief systems

2) if we alienate Muslims we won't be able to leverage the helpful ones in rooting out terrorism

2 is a tell that 1 is not actually believed even by those who plead it.

The question was referring to all Muslims, which is much too vague. There is good and bad in all. I don't want the non law abiding citizens of any country entering the US.

This has been pointed out here many times. Muslim terrorism is not a major problem in the US, it has been held in check very well overall. The same cannot be said for our own death toll every year in the US at the end of a gun. The number of Americans killed by Muslim terrorists every year in the US since 9/11 are not even 1% of the Americans killed by a gun.

1. islam doesn't have any special power over it's followers, in this sense islam is the exact same as all other religions. the potential for violence is there, because the potential for violence is in EVERYONE.

2. if we alienate innocent people to capture the guilty we are ignoring the only ideal that makes america great (not again, it's the one ideal we still loosely hold on to).

trump's supporters and other reactionary gop typs ignore point 2 because, i'm going to venture, the majority are of a 'good and proper' religion and fail to see the hypocrisy in demanding religious freedom for themselves while also demanding the right to discriminate against other religions, for safety's sake. dakine gave you a well known quote on that one yesterday..

As a Christian I have zero issues with non believers either atheist, agnostic, other religions. Personally I don't consider myself religious as much as spiritual. Some might say that's garbage. Doesn't bother me. If somebody doesn't want to follow what I believe that's their prerogative. All that I can do is live my life the best that I can.
