So anyway all the stupid stuff aside here is a summary of the ideas proposed in this thread to deal with islamic terrorism, in no particular order. I don't think I've missed any:

1) Nothing

2) Stop bombing/attacking foreign countries

3) Stop or curtail immigration from islamic countries

In terms of efficacy:

1) Obviously stupid

2) Misses the fact that islamists kill each other at higher rates in the middle east and africa than anywhere else, without any foreign intervention at all. Western fighter planes are not a necessary ingredient to terrorism

3) Main worry is this is too prejudicial. But, there are many ways to implement it

I will say that carpet bombing like Ted Cruz mentioned and bringing back Torture like Donald Trump mentioned will make the problem worse.

Yes, I believe you are right.

If some of the hard core righties had their way they would deport all Muslims and Mexicans... we would also probably be fighting a couple more wars and we would be torturing people, holding more people without a trial.. and terrorism would still be happening all over the world.

I think any side left unchecked would be bad for business. But yep, it's been said here a few times some members have no problem rounding up all Muslims and putting them in interment camps. Or flat out killing all of them since they can't tell the difference between ISIS and "moderate" Muslims.

I've said many times we need to get out of the middle east. Your presumption of number 2 is wrong, since we have been messing around there for the last 75 years.

Putting the Shah of Iran back in power over a democratically elected government in 1953 was wrong. Keeping an absolute monarchy propped up in Saudi Arabia is wrong. Invading Iraq for - not even sure why on that one, but it's wrong. These are the things that open the door for extremism.

You can't say stopping foreign intervention doesn't work until you stop doing it. We are not doing things there in the interest of the people there. We never have.
