I'm getting ready to send the supporting documentation for our DS-260 to the NVC. These include documents in Spanish, such as our marriage certificate and my wife's birth certificate and police certificate. My wife has a friend who married a US citizen and recently went through the same process, and her friend had her documents in Spanish translated and certified by a lawyer. However, at http://travel.state...._documents.html it states:

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations."

So, it seems to me that since Spanish is the official language of Honduras, we do not need to include translations of these documents. Am I correct in assuming that the NVC will just look at my form I-864EZ and forward it with the supporting documentation to the embassy in Honduras, where the immigration officials there will know both Spanish and English?

It depends. Check the consulate or embassy and see what they want as they may have specific instructions. For instance, French and English are both official languages of Canada but everything must be translated into English.

The NVC may forward it but the embassy may still require a translation.

Always follow the instructions of the form that you are filling out. For the DS-260, you do not need translations if the documents are in English or in the official language of the country where the application for a visa is being made.

If you were filing forms to USCIS (eg I-129F for K1 visa or I-130 for spouse or relatives, etc) then you would need to translate everything to English.

I submitted my step-children's birth certificates in Spanish with no RFEs (about language not in English) and no problems for their DS-260s (I-130 filings).

good idea. i found contact information for the embassy in tegucigalpa (http://honduras.usembassy.gov/iv_contactinfo.html) and emailed them. hopefully they'll respond.

As I understand all documents not in English must be translated. Since you are able to translate your own documents, accompanied with the "certification of translator" this is easy. We did this for our D-260.

I know somebody who translates documents and certifies them also.
