Hello All

I had my I-485/I-130 interview last week. I am a student on F1 (from India) and my wife is a USC.

We reached well before time and waited at the interview area reception to hand our appointment letter. 15 minutes later we were escorted in for the interview. The IO (a young female) put us under oath and started by collecting our passports, DLs, SSNs. After that she asked my wife a series of questions from our application (name, dob, address, etc). Pretty much exact questions that were filled in the form including my visa status, last entry into US, name of my school, etc. She answered all nicely. Then she asked me some questions including my mother's maiden name, professional societies I am part of, last place of residence, name of room-mate, "have you ever...", etc. Then she said that she looked at our pictures and wondered if we had more. At this point my wife pulled out a 10"x10" shutterfly album that we got made for our wedding. All well so far. Then she asked for a copy of travel tickets of one of the trips we made. I gave her the boarding pass and luggage tags as I didn't bring the tickets. She then asked if we have a joint bank account. I said no but showed her our joint renter's insurance and auto insurance. I refrained from explaining why we don't have joint bank account. Everybody here says answer to the point and I was trying that. At this point she says, I have your lease agreement, renter's insurance, auto insurance, pictures, etc and that is all I need to make a decision. She kept our original renter's insurance, auto insurance (I guess I will have to ask for another copy from my insurance guy!!)

She went out to make copies of the passports, DLs, SSNs. After coming back she said we should expect a mail in 3 weeks in case she needs more documents. That didn't sound good to me. Then she said the green card will be valid for only 2 years and I will need to file 90days before expiry for ROC. I wanted to ask if that means we are approved but I was too afraid. I honestly thought that the interview went well. My wife said that I looked kinda nervous and anxious during it and had a staid face while answering questions.

Now, I am trying to figure out what to expect next. RFE requesting joint bank accounts? Stokes interview? OR maybe she is a junior IO and needs her supervisor's approval for each case.

Any comments, advice will be helpful.

Thanks

You're likely good. We did not receive an immediate decision after our interview either. The I/O said he had to discuss things with his supervisor and it make take some time. It turned out that we were approved the next day.

I agree with everyone - probably a good sign. My husband and I had his I-485 adjustment of status interview (I am the US Citizen) a few weeks ago in Boston and they said the same thing. About 4 days later, the case was approved. Our only issue now is that USPS seems to have lost his green card!

It makes me feel a little better to hear that. I was (and still kinda) concerned because I have heard horror stories of people not hearing back after interview for months!!

Sorry to hear about your situation. I guess even getting approved is not the last step. You can only breathe easy once you have it in hand. Can you try and contact USCIS to issue a replacement?

Had my interview last Friday the 18th although my spouse made a couple of mistakes.

At the end the Officer said she was going to review our case and it would take from 30 to 60 days. I do not know what to expect.

I agree, I think in most cases the approval happens a few days to a week later. Good luck! Just a warning though - hopefully after approval the USPS doesn't lose your green card!!

I am hoping they wont.

I had my AOS interview March 8, 2016, I came in on F-1 visa 12 years ago and I am filing for AOS with my wife who is USC. There were two IOs in the room when my wife and I walked in. We went through the security check and sat for a few minutes before we were called in. The first thing one of the IO said was how amazed he was about how organized and detailed the folder we brought in for interview was. The interview itself went pretty smoothly as we answered every question appropriately and as asked. IOs were shocked and excited when they learnt I shattered a jumbo jet and proposed to my wife while in the sky. I blanked out when he asked me about my sponsor and I told him I met him in Texas, but IO was insistent that my sponsor filed his taxes in Virginia, but I held my position and told both IOs that I met my sponsor in Texas and I don't know all his business ventures and states that he works. IO took my I-94 and said " You can have your passport back but I am going to hang on to your I-94 and send this to NBC" he then stapled it to my documents and folder he has with him and all along during the interview process, he kept on stamping something on my pile of files with him but he never stamped my passport. The final thing he said after asking the YES and NO questions was " We will get back with you if we need additional information, but the time it will take you to hear back from me will be way shorter then what you had to wait to get an interview" My wife then asked " we plan on traveling and going to visit Africa and stop by Jamaica, are we able to go and return without problems ? IO responded "If you have to travel, I will get with you attorney and have him file for AP for you before you travel" It's been 14 days since my interview and my status online has not been updated from "interview scheduled " I am confused and don't know what to think.. Is this a normal interview and I don't know what to expect next. Interview was in Dallas Texas office

You had your I-94 in hand? Isn't that an online thing now?

When you say sponsor, you mean AOS sponsor? He is a family friend or just an acquaintance?

You don't have AP? I am not sure when you'll hear back from USCIS but do not travel without getting GC in hand/approved.

I just had my interview today. I had everything but AOS told me I dont have enough evidence to prove that I really live with my husband. Im F1 visa, i tried to applied to a college next to home but i never got accepted. So i hsve to study at different school which is far from home. The thing is I have moved to live with my husband since 2014. This home is belong to my parents in law. They let me and my husband live with them that why me and husband doesn't have rent bill. Because if the college is far I have to keep moving back and forth. Sometime husband visit me, sometime i do. So AOS asked what is my Residencial address, I gave the address of our home, but he said not. I tired to explained to him that I always go home whenever I can such as weekend and school break. I asked him what kind of evidence he want but he not really tell me. So at the end he collected a lot of documents such at tax return, our joint account and some of our pictures. I answered him those yes and no questions. He told me he need to reviewed it and will mail the decision in 2 or 3 weeks. Then nicely say goodbye. I don't know what is going on. I just answers all the fact about me and husband. I don't know if I miss understand his questions. This got me real upset. Can someone tell me what to expect please!
