Has anyone here had their income for the year they moved to the US taxed exclusively here?

(Preferably in Germany or maybe another European country?)

I earned nothing in the US in 2015, but a nice amount in Germany. Of course, income tax was always taken out of my paychecks, adding up to around 25,000 EUR.

Now, I could just do my tax declaration in Germany, cash my refund - which I expect to be around 4,000 EUR -, file MFJ here, declare our joint income and get a tax credit for foreign income tax.

BUT, has anyone tried to get all the tax back from the home country with the reasoning that is declared and paid for in another country? Since I suspect that the tax on our joint income here would be lower.

I tried to read the tax treaty, and it states quite clearly that income is taxed in the country where it is earned, but for a joint declaration, can this be an exception?
