You're mixing two completely different issues that have nothing to do with one another. And I don't always agree with everything Israel does, either.

Wording it as "our resources" makes it sound like you're talking to an outsider who doesn't care. I live here, they are my resources too. Believe me since we've been here we paid ALOT in taxes. Not to mention the ones my wife has paid all her life.

My point is if they wanted to deport him they should have done this years ago. If they did not, boohoo for them. He can still pay in other ways as mentioned by me and others, community service, fines, etc. Deportation is not always the answer.

Twisting your tail dude. You get detection for that and you're solid.

They are applying the exclusion rules. His actions put him in excludable category. Though deporting him back then would certainly spare the rest of this family he is still, under our law, excludable. He got excluded, end of story. I'm not a wall builder but fake papers and DUI's are not going to be included in my list of acceptable stuff for illegal immigrants to do.

You may want to reword that.

Do you realize the border with Mexico is almost 2,000 miles long? Do you realize there are mountains, rivers, even ocean on that border in areas?

Build the wall and send them all back and watch our food prices triple... A 2,000 mile wall is not going to stop people. They will dig under or climb over or find a way around.

Are you willing to have your taxes go up to pay for it and maintain it?

I understand you believe walls don't work. I believe that that walls are very effective. I hope the USA will become a gated country…..you know…like a gated community…only on a much larger scale. There is nothing wrong with controlling who comes into our country. Sure…some will be able to get around it or under….but it will be so much more difficult for illegals to come through and it will also make it so much easier to patrol it. It would cut down not only on illegals, but also drugs by over 90% IMO.

Follow that up with strict enforcement ,on those that hire illegals, and we can get control of the problem.

It is not that I do not think walls do not work. I just do not think the problem is worth the expense and there are better ways to solve the immigration issues like going after the companies that employ them.

I think our tax dollars can be spent in better ways than building a wall.

Fair enough.

So if someone from Guatemala wants to move to the UK or Australia or Canada do they have a route beyond getting married or having a large portfolio?

Canada has express entry, where you can immigrate as a skilled worker using a points based system. The criteria (and name) has changed over the years but my wife has a few friends from school who immigrated to Canada that way. IIRC two were programmers and one was a nurse. I'm not sure of all the details, but I recall her friend that is a nurse was not able to work as a nurse when she got to Canada and needed to do additional courses or something.

The government doesn't have the greatest track record here. I don't think the wall will work, but one way or another, they'll piss the money away on something stupid.

Like pissing 20 bil away on immigration enforcement along the border? The wall only costs 30 billion. You think maybe Trump's looking to cut annual expenditure by investing capital in the area where the money is being squandered? The IRR even cutting the annual expenditure by 30% is still very attractive.

We need to look at where our tax dollars are going and invest in areas where we get a return. Like a business. Like it or not, the wall is economically justified.

If Trump is elected, a wall would likely do more to slow down the people trying to get out of the USA and delay them getting back to Mexico.

So we build the wall and then we will not have border guards and security enforcing it? You know as well as I that it would be the expense of the wall, building it, maintaining it, monitoring it plus the cost of the current security forces which have gone way up over the past few years. We are not going to save any money with this wall. It is going to cost tax payers a fortune and it will not solve the problem.

I assume that you think Mexico will pay for it? Right.... Monkeys may also fly out of my rear and pay for it. lol

The wall idea also ignores the fact that almost half of the people here illegally entered with inspection at border crossings or airports and overstayed. I don't know the cost of the wall, and I don't know how hard it would be to get over or under, but the benefit is reduced by the fact that half of the people will, in essence, come through the gates.

Mexico pay? LOL I never was that stupid

The biggest cost in border enforcement is not guarding and patrolling, it's handling and processing the illegals that are chased and captured on a daily basis along the border. Lot of infrastructure required

I figured you weren't but I wonder how many Trump supporters actually believe that bs..I can think of a couple people on this forum who probably believe everything he says.

You may be right though I suspect though cost of the border guards or agents or what ever they call themselves patrolling the border is also very expensive and good luck actually getting a government agency to take less funds. Once the dream wall is up then what? Fire all the border guards? Good Luck..

I also agree with the post above mentioning that most of the illegal aliens in the USA got there legally but over stayed there visas, not by trekking through the desert.

If you think that by paying for it he means having them write a check, as have been discussed here before - that is not how. There are many ways to get someone to pay for something without having them write a check - I've done it myself many times with the business we own.

Right, just like the oil from Iraq paid for the war.

I guess the Donald's strategy would be to hire very cheap labor to build the wall perhaps from Mexico?

do you think there's a bunch of differences between the consequences of political manipulation and business deals? or are, say, ceo of a pinterest start-up and potus essentially the same playing field?

trump isn't actually going to build a wall, he's just having a bit of fun fishing for guppies right now.
