I am not giving my opinion on the particular ways he may or may not do it and if they would be a good thing or a bad thing. I am just saying anyone who thinks that even Trump is delusional enough to think they would write him a check obviously doesn't understand what this is about. Examples of how were already given before in a different thread - are they good or bad that's a different discussion.

no.. What you do is when you sit with them at the next trade negotiation you make it part of the negotiation. Since the trade surplus runs in the tens of billions in their favor we do what every other country does and throw in all our grievances when we are negotiating and add in the cost of doing business with that country. We have a 500 billion trade deficit with the world and are by far the largest purchaser of goods - that is leverage that can be used and is not done effectively today because the right touted free trade and the left touted fair trade while most of the rest of the world does "whats best for us" trade. We avoided that third one because it does not create a win-win (ie: it is bad for corporations) but since nobody else wants to play "free" or "fair" we should not be going for the win-win anymore.

France and much of the EU is falling over itself to get contracts from Iran and giving all sorts of concessions. The Iranian market is minuscule compared to ours and we do not take advantage of it to make deals that are the best for us.. why? The EU does it, Russia does it, Japan does it, the Chinese do it like nobody else. We suck at it.

Its not about building a wall, Mexico is not going to directly pay for a wall. I really could not care less about a wall - its about using the leverage we have to make deals that are in our best interest - this is the largest market on the planet and it is ridiculous that a country can keep us out of its markets though stupid laws aimed squarely at us while getting preferential access to ours. Screw that.

I assume this is just the usual partisan BS but would any of the proposed legislation allow for someone who entered the country illegally and convicted of a crime while here and having forged documents a path to residency? He says "...at the same time enforces the rule of law." - How could it be worded to not just say "anyone , any time, any reason." and still give the loophole he wants for this person? What rule of law would there be to enforce?

Yeah having a hard defined line to delineate a complex grey area is a tough thing to do. I remember in a job long ago the company I worked for assigned us the task of defining "quality" as it pertained to our product. Based on some video we found of what other companies had done we ended up defining it as "I know it when I see it." That might be a solution for cases like this - have someone (an assigned bureaucrat, not someone on the judicial side) with the power to look at a situation and say "That's not right" and be able to fix it without it setting some sort of precedent going forward.
