It might not look good, but sometimes accidents happen. Pay your back taxes and get proof from the IRS. That way, if you get an RFE or if you get called for an interview, you will be prepared.

If you can't pay the entire balance at one time, set up a payment plan with the IRS. Then keep a printed copy of the agreement and proof that you are making payments as agreed upon.

Good luck!

Almost same thing happened to me and my husband. My husband filed our taxes last year (2015 for 2014 taxes), I wasn't paying attention that time because I trust my husband to do it. Then it was about time to file my ROC but I had emergency to go back home so again, I was so pre-occupied and missed to include the W2, Tax Receipts and even the Rent lease agreement. I was already out of the country when my husband saw the missed documents. So, we are expecting RFE and got that letter after 6 months. We waited for the W2's so we can include the 2015 tax in the mail. While reviewing the 2014 Tax, my W2 wasn't included in the computations/records. I was scared that we might get a letter saying you did not pay your taxes right or we are intentionally did that etc. SO we rushed to IRS and asked something about amendments. We just amend our 2014 thru TurboTax and we submitted it to the IRS. They stamped it saying they have received and reviewed it.

Just go to IRS and explain your situation, and they will re-assure you that it will be taken care of as long as you will pay it. AND, it won't affect your ROC denial, worst case is receiving RFE stating that you have to submit the Amended Tax for 2014. Just so you know, I just got my approval today after sending the RFE documents (including my amended tax for 2014).

On your NOA1/1-ye extension letter, you should have read that you have another opportunity to submit evidence. Please do so now and do not wait for an RFE. An RFE will delay your application.

It doesn't matter if you just found out you owe money. Just pay it.
