I-864 Household size help

I am a US citizen domicile in the USA filling out the I-864 as sponsor for my foreign based wife. In the household size category I am not sure whether I should leave item 3 "If you are currently married, enter "1" for your spouse." blank. If I add 1 then I will be counting my wife twice, since item 1 was self-populated with 1(she is the only person I am sponsoring on the I-864). I will be lying if I leave it blank since I am married to HER. Any advise with this?

You won't be lying, you'll be following instructions since the note right at the beginning of that part clearly states Do not count any member of your household more than once. Also, I wouldn't leave it blank, I'd write a 0 there and elsewhere where a 0 is warranted, i.e., I wouldn't (and didn't) leave those boxes blank.

P.S. Although I'd agree that the instructions in that regard are poorly written. Like how hard would it be to add "unless your spouse is a person you are sponsoring in this affidavit" for that line item.

They do state that:

Note: do not count any member of your household more than once.

Persons you are sponsoring in this affidavit

Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit.

Obviously if you are counting your spouse, you do not count them again. Many people still get hung up on this question though.

* to add... You need to count your minor children, wherever they live in the world regardless of if you support them or not.
