Good morning friends,

I am a Canadian national working in US on TN Status. I am getting married here in July and will like to bring my parents here to attend the wedding. The dilemma I am facing is that whether they should mention the purpose of this visit if asked by the officials to be casual or should they mention the marriage. As TN is a non-immigrant intent status, will it cause problems for them. On the same lines, I want to sponsor my mother's sister for her B2 so that she can also come and visit me and attend the wedding. Should she mention the reason for the visit as wedding or not? This will be a religious ceremony and we are not planning to get legally married around that time.

I thought Canadians don't have to apply for a visa, they're automatically on B2 status when they cross the border?

Thank you guys for your quick responses. My parents and her sister are Indians and not Canadians. My parents already have a valid tourist visa and I will like my mothers sister to apply for it as well. What I meant by sponsoring her was to send an invitation letter mentioning that she will be staying with me and that I will be taking care of her expenses while she is here and the reason why I would like to invite her here.

If irs to attend a wedding one should state that, always be honest,

if it is a visit as a tourist, and will attend the wedding, one could

also say for tourism.

You cannot sponsor anyone for a visa to visit, they have to go to the

interview and prove on their own great ties in their country and convince

the interviewer they will return home without begging

Their bank statements , jobs & titles should reflect they can afford a vacation

If your parents already have a B2 visa then surely they have already gone through the whole process and can advise the sister what to do? Its not hard.

Exactly

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

are your parents indians living in india or in canada? if they are living in canada and they have jobs in canada, that will make it very likely they will get approved!!! if they dont have any ties to return to, they wont get approved...

The us government DOES NOT CARE why they are going to be visiting the USA. All they care about is that THEY will return!! having ties ect will strengthen that.. and if they are residents of canada i am sure that is a very strong tie and unlikely they will immigrate and overstay to the USA.

The border patrol does not care what visa you are on... that does not effect your parents going to the usa and it doesnt matter as you are already in the USA.

Yes, if border asks they should say 'i am going to my sons wedding' and just answer the questions they give them.. if they ask what their son does, then they can say that.. just dont divulge the information they dont ask! and i have never heard them asking what visa the son is on ect... they can also say they are going to visit their son.. and if they ask why then they can say his wedding. If they ask how you are working, your parents can just say 'he is on a work visa' they wont ask the kind ,and if they do your parents can say 'we dont know'

you do not need to write a letter! the us gov does not care if you are giving them 10$ or 10,000$! they ONLY care that your parents will return.. so them having jobs, careers, propert, money in THEIR bank account ect will help!!! or if your sister in in a college program at a good school or whatever!

i wouldnt be overly worried.
