Well we finally had our interview.  Everything really seemed to go well.  The case officer talked a lot about her life and told stories.  She didn't ask much but we were ready with all the answers and evidence for what she did ask.

Unfortunately we got to the very end and were getting up to leave when she told us our medical was expired and somehow incomplete.  I was really surprised since we had no prior notification that there were any issues.  We also didn't know our medical was expired.

I guess she was referring to the one we had done in Egypt before my husband received the K1 visa to enter the US?  Once we were married and before submitting our AOS paperwork we did another medical - that was in September of last year.  That should be well within the time.

Any case my husband and I went for a new medical to the same office we had visited for our AOS paperwork.  We went right after getting out of the interview this past Friday.  Of course it took the weekend to get the results but on Monday morning first thing, my husband picked up the new medical and delivered it to the NYC office by hand.  He actually put it in the hand of our case officer.  She said we could bring it once it was completed.

Since that time however, there have been no changes or updates to our case.  In fact the website still says interview is scheduled.

I sincerely hope we aren't in for another long wait.  As we were told they have 3 months to respond - and we can't inquire till that time has gone by.  Fingers crossed we get something before then!

If anyone has any experience with something like this, please share.

And for those awaiting interviews, I hope you're due for a smoother process.

This morning I was awoken by 4 text messages, back to back. I woke up a little annoyed because it was way before my alarm clock and immediately thought something happened at work. (Im in technology, my phone goes off at all times during the night and early AM.) To my surprise, it was 4 text messages from the USCIS that our case has been updated! I immediately went online and go this beautiful message:

On July 27, 2017, we scheduled you for your interview and mailed you an interview notice for Receipt Number MSCXXXXXXXX. Your interview is on August 29, 2017. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your interview notice by August 26, 2017, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

WOOHOO! Finally! 9 months and 4 days after my PD date. I'm so relieved/excited/happy/nervous! I think I'm more excited than my husband! :):) I can't wait to get the letter and to begin preparing :)

Hi there - I'm going through the exact same thing here. My medical was expired so I just did the exam again and I'm waiting for the results to come out so I can submit it. The instructions in my letter said to mail it in, though.

Did you you end up getting approved after they received your new medical?

I'm in a time crunch as I need the GC or EAD/AP renewal by September 18...

Our update letter did state that the medical should be mailed.  However our CO told us we could bring it in to the NY office, which is what we did.  I think she was being nice.

So after waiting for about 2.5 weeks, our case was updated to "card being printed"

Another 5 days went by and the card arrived in the mail.

We're ALL done for now!

Time table was:

Interview Fri July 14th

Returned updated medical to office Mon July 17th

Case update/card being printed Fri Aug 4th

Card received Wed Aug 9th

Hopefully you will get a quick answer and have your card in hand soon!

Quick questions for those who had their interviews..

My husband isn't fluent in English. He can certainly communicate however I'm afraid that there might be some questions he might not be able to answer. I'm thinking of having someone (preferably my brother) come to translate for my husband. Will that be frowned upon that it's my family member that's assisting to translate? Or does the person have to be an "official" translator that I would reach out to a translation agency for?

No I don't think you have to be an "official" translator.  But translators are welcomed.
