i mean, the year is 2016 and we have the internet. the possibilities are pretty endless but my kid is being prepared for the world by filling in little black dots on a test with a pencil.

at least the internet has vastly improved our grasp of vulgarity.

Not me, I was vulgar when we had AOL and bbs's

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

Parents should want to do that(assuming they can afford it) for their kids easily without the government having to nudge them to. Or maybe it's just Jewish parents lol...

Nevertheless, like I said, the government could definitely incentivize them to(in the form of tax credits etc)

Think it's an old school Jewish thing...

Plenty of wealthy parents out there not giving a toss about their kid's education .

The gov needs to invest in the future.

what's that???

Don't mean to sound heartless but that shouldn't be the government's fault, or the taxpayers for that matter. In that case then they will have no choice but to see what they can get through student loans, but that should be a last resort, not first. The government can't start taking over the parents' responsibility. It starts with college tuition, it will end with changing diapers.

The main point I think to take away from it is this though; The way it is now the government robs you first, and then goes "here's a cookie, want some milk with it?". The way I think it should be is for the government to leave more money in your pocket to start with, and then you wouldn't need favors from it. Let me decide what to spend my money on, don't first take it away and then dictate to me how much I get back and in what form(free college for instance). What if I don't have kids? What if most of those services in which you're supposed to "get your money back" don't relate to you specifically? I mean it's not tailor made for everybody. I have NO problem paying less in taxes, and paying for my own kids' tuition fees, as well as helping out those from poor families. That's not redistribution - at the end of the day it will keep more money in the pocket of everyone except for - the government.

But if the general population is undereducated the country is screwed.

Actually all parents want to. I wouldn't expect to see a difference between Jewish or any other parents in that regard.

The general population won't be uneducated, you're talking about outliers.

if you think so. i'd not be surprised if some in this thread didn't know what it meant.

Perhaps. That's why I said considering the circumstances. We were not talking about VJ posters, we were talking about Grace Tilly - who has a Celtic cross tattooed on one hand and an 88 on the other. That's two symbols of white supremacy and you have some doubt about something? I don't understand that at all. It should be obvious.

Exactly, so it shouldn't be an issue.

What you seem to be overlooking is the fact that again, the reason I believe the government has to be very selective about aid, and only provide it to those who are financially and academically eligible, is BECAUSE I want to reduce taxes, and shrink government. So this family of 4 would not be paying $38,000 anymore. If you could lower their taxes by even a mere 5%, that alone would be enough to cover their tuition. I don't understand this "lets take more so we can give more back"...why don't we try a "lets take less and have to give less" approach.

5% of 38,000 doesnt buy the meal plan. Your numbers dont add up. It boils down the concept that higher earners should pay for their own kids and pay for someone else's kids too. We have that now.

Ahem. It wouldn't be 5% of 38,000. It would be 5% of 200,000.

Higher earners should pay for their own kids. But not for someone else's unless that someone else has absolutely no other way. That's the heart of the matter(as free college WOULD mean paying for someone else's)..
