I would be the first to say i dont know much if anything about immigration except what i have learned going thru this process. So bare with me, sitting here waiting on Ahmed to come on line and i see the president on tv in Mexico. He has promised to do all he can to establish a plan for those from Mexico here already illegally to gain their citizenship.

Ok we all on here wait, months, years, etc doing everything we can dot all the (i)s and crossing all the (t) paying all the fees and still wait, so our SO can do the same thing.(but correctly the first time).

If those people wanted to be citizens they would have already done what was required, has he promised all of us or the ones wanting to do something the right way the same?

Like i say, im not to educated on this stuff, but seems something is not adding up.

Makes me feel like writting him a letter to tell him hey we are here and we are following the rules how about something for these people wanting to do good not help the ones already illegal.

What an azzhole. Wouldn't he want to repatriate his fellow citizens and make them do things right? Of course not, when our Government speaks of amnesty. Makes me want to puke.

Nickel and dime attempts to convince legislators are innefective. We need national referendums on issues like this. I mean, who is paying the bills around here anyway?

There are those right here waiting for visas who are still of a mind that illegal immigration is a good thing.

Not only did Bush promise to legalize lawbreakers, he also calmly listened to demands from Calderon that the US stop buidling a border fence and give the money spent on that to Mexico for village renewal. Also, the Mexican government has filed several protests recently about fence builders stepping into Mexican territory and, just the other day, about US border patrol agents coming onto Mexican soil to help put out a fire.

This is the same corrupt government that routinely defends incursions over the border into the US by military forces escorting drug smugglers and coyotes, defends tunnels build underground into American cities, does nothing about the violence, kidnappings, and rapes committed against the smuggled, and publishes materials teaching its poor how to cross into the US undetected, it also boasts of its own stricti immigration laws against those who would illegally cross its southern border. It is believed that the border patrol agents jailed for confronting and shooting a drug smuggler on the border were prosecuted as an appeasement to Mexico. It is clear that the immorality and corruption that pervades Mexico's border towns and dealings is infecting both figuratively and literally our own government and our border towns.

Yeah, we are fools to do it right, no doubt. Bend over and hold their Vaseline.

Well...we started our visa journey in May 2003 when I sent in our I-129F in to TX Service Center. Of course it started earlier with gathering documents and such to file the I-129F and several trips to visit her in Belarus.

It ended this week when my wife and stepdaughter received their 10 year Green Cards with the conditions removed. Their residency is no longer tied to our marriage, but that is a mere formality and does detract from our mutually happy marriage.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel. Patience is a virtue when dealing with US-CIS. Just look at our timeline.

My wife will be eligible to file for US citizenship at the end of this year and my stepdaughter at the end of 2009. I told them the advantages and disadvantages and will let them decide for themselves.

I know it is frustrating...but hang in there.

But to me that is the light, we wait and wait to do whats right others come here, stay, send all their earnings back, collect our benefits and so to speak the light is handed to them. Most dont even intend to ever be citizens or want to be. For each one of those that dont want to be citizens we on here have a person who does want to come here to work. Some of these are very educated people doctors, lawyers, teachers wanting to give what they have to be a citizen.

My wife will be eligible to file for US citizenship at the end of this year and my stepdaughter at the end of 2009.

Not sure how old your stepdaughter is but under certain circumstances (being a lawful permanent resident), she will be a US citizen as soon as your wife becomes a US citizen. If your stepdaughter is a bit away from turning 18, you may want to take a look at the Child Citizenship Act.

1. Does my child qualify for automatic citizenship under the CCA?

Under the CCA, your child will automatically acquire U.S. citizenship on the date that all of the following requirements are satisfied:

At least one parent is a U.S. citizen,

The child is under 18 years of age, and

The child is admitted to the United States as an immigrant.

2. Do I have to apply to USCIS for my child’s citizenship?

No. If your child satisfies the requirements listed above, he or she automatically acquires U.S. citizenship by operation of law on the day he or she is admitted to the United States as an immigrant. Your child’s citizenship status is no longer dependent on USCIS approving a naturalization application.

3. What documentation can I get of my child’s citizenship?

If your child permanently resides in the U.S, you can obtain evidence of your child’s citizenship by applying for a Certificate of Citizenship. You will need to file Form N-600 (Application for Certificate of Citizenship) and submit it to the local USCIS District Office or Sub-Office that holds jurisdiction over your permanent residence. You can also apply for a U.S. Passport from the Department of State.

IMO, US should INVADE Mexico, advance to about 32 km from Mexico City, and build the wall there--on the parallel!

Afterwards, ALL Mexicans without US visas north of that wall should be deported to remainder-Mexico.
