what's strange to me is anyone who thinks trump is 'anti establishment'

why find the same kind of list when you could write it yourself - that's what i did. i'd love to see what you think of sanders supporters. even more so - i'd love to see where you take issue on sanders' policies. honestly, i don't think there's anything you could say to make me think poorly of sanders' supporters. i am a firm believer in the right to protest, in civil disobedience. and what trump said about what 'used to happen to protestors'? i find that sort of thinking an affront to freedom.

Political freedom is a societys safety valve, allowing the passionately critical a nonviolent way to express their dissatisfaction with the status quo.

Thank you for the link, I did read it and sincerely tried to put myself in the writers shoes.

First of all, I mean this without sarcasm, that many white males do feel besieged and feel they have lost ground, socially and economically, over the the last 4 decades. My rebuttal against his points are this:

1. If you consider yourself part of a white tribe, that is not a thing. You are a collection of a variety of European cultures that came her and assimilated.
2. The assimilation let you keep some of your ancestors background and culture but most of that just got incorporated into this new thing, being an American. American is not a tribe or race.
3. The writer in the article mentions Rene Girard but has a limited understanding of his writings and where he was going with the Scapegoat theory. I have read Girard extensively and consider him to be one of the greatest 20th Century philosophers that no one has heard of. In the end he says that only the spiritual concept of forgiveness and forbearance will help us break our chain of tribal violence. Message me if you want more reading links on Rene Girard
4. If a "white tribe" male finds himself disenfranchised by the system(s) , what is he doing to improve his social and economic condition. The non-existant white tribe will not help him, as the adage goes, you help yourself. Whining about Black Power, Feminism, Establishment Republicans, Wall Street, the Ex Wife, the VA, and anything else will not boost his value and contribution to society.

Good post, but maybe his questionable use of tribalism detracted from his point. I'm not familiar with Girard.

As for the fourth point you could replace the word white with black and make the same argument--I know I've heard it many times from the other side. But a middle/lower class white guy faces many of the same issues somebody of any race does: he doesn't have the time (or the ability) now to switch careers. If you're 50, of average intelligence, and little wealth built up and you just got laid off because the plant moved to Monterrey, you're going to be angry because you know retraining is going to be difficult and costly, and it's easier said than done. Trump is speaking out about that corporate behavior most vehemently. Your faith may be ill found, but you have to put it somewhere. And people call you racist and gullible for it.

So a quick supplement to the above. A guy I know who thinks quite poorly of Trump says that Trump is not a racist, he is an opportunist. He knows what to say to a racist to make the racist think Trump is the same way; he knows what to say to a poor person to make the poor person think Trump is in his corner, he knows what to say to a rich to do the same, etc. It's basically politics at its core.

There is also the fact that until quite recently Trump was buddy buddy with a lot of the left that now thinks he's a born again dragon of the KKK. Unless he's either a new racist or a masterful hider of his true intentions, Clinton et al should explain why they used to play golf with him.
