Im so confused on this thing ppl arent very clear

Don't be confused. She was born in 1990 and thus falls under those that don't have a recognized birth certificate. She will be given an attestation of birth from NPC which I was given but was insufficient proof of my birth when I submitted my AOS to USCIS.

So, I will advise (IF she's still in Nigeria) to do the following:

1 - Collect a letter from her Pastor/Imam on the church or mosque letterhead paper signed by the Pastor/Imam AND Secretary with an official seal and stamp stating her date of birth, parents full name and that she doesn't have a birth certificate because she falls under those born before 1992 when the NPC was formed and thus doesn't have a legal birth certificate recognized by the federal government of Nigeria.

2 - Get same letter from her secondary school and attach her WAEC result because it carries her Name and Date of birth. Also signed by secretary with official school stamp and seal.

3 - Get same letter from Local Government of Birth or Local Government of Origin stating same and signed by secretary with official seal and stamp.

Those are the 3 letters USCIS told me to get and it was stated on the letter they sent to me.

With that I guess its no longer complicated.

Let's be clear about the documentary requirements.

USCIS/NVC's standard is the long-form birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission.

Applicants who were born before 1992 can't be issued an NPC birth certificate (the NPC could only issue birth certificates for people born after 1992). Such applicants can obtain an attestation of birth from the NPC but that attestation doesn't on its own meet the documentary standards of USCIS/NVC. It must be corroborated by other evidence, including:

  • A declaration of age (affidavit) sworn in a high court by a relative, preferably the applicant's mother, old enough to have witnessed the birth
  • A baptismal certificate

i honestly think a mod should make this clarification a sticky on the African sub thread , this needs to be seen so everyone can be clear
