Searched on here, plenty to choose from.

The only plans on there available to non-UK residents are from IMG, the same company that provides the Patriot America Plan I already listed. IMG plans work well in the USA, since they have a large network of providers here, but I don't see anything available for $50 a year.

Why would it be available for non uk residents? It is for UK insurance.

Point I am making is your point of buying insurance in the US instead of your home country is baloney.

The point I was making (in regards to buying insurance in the USA) is based on direct billing of insurance by the medical provider and acceptance of the plan by US networks.

I said early on there is nothing wrong with buying a plan in the UK, although that doesn't apply to the OP. They may find a better plan in Mexico or they may not. They should look at all options. It's possible direct billing and getting a contracted network rate are not issues for them, but people should realize there are other factors to consider besides the cost of the plan and the maximum coverage.

I have mentioned this before, there is a hot line you call, a help desk, most Insurers contract this out to specialist companies who deal with all the Doctors/Networks etc. Nobody is expecting you to put it on your Credit Card :wow:

Having said that many years ago I was in hospital for a few days in Sri Lanka and did pay with my CC, but it was about $1,000 including an operation.

US costs are slightly different.

Unfortunately medical billing is something I've been way too familiar with. I wouldn't leave it up to chance. How the bill would be paid is something to look at seriously with any prospective plan. I would suggest calling local medical providers and asking them how they would work with the plan.

I never leave home without doing so.
