Hello,

I just received my K-1 visa.

First of all, I would like to thanks the VisaJourney community and website. The site has been very helpful!

The expiration date of the visa is 6 months from the date of the interview, but under "Annotations" there's something called "Pet. Exp. Date" which is 4 months since the date of the interview.

We plan to get married around the same time, and submit form I-485 for Adjustment of Status after this date. What is this date? Can it be extended? Do I have to file my AOS before this date?

Thanks.

Could "Pet. Exp. Date" mean "Petition Expiration Date?" As in the date that the original approved I-129F visa petition would expire? If so, is will be of little consequence as soon as you enter the US at your Port of Entry (POE). Your one-time, one-way K1 visa will be invalidated at that time.

We plan to get married around the same time, and submit form I-485 for Adjustment of Status after this date. What is this date? As mentioned above. Can it be extended? Likely moot point after your US POE. Do I have to file my AOS before this date? Unlikely, see below.

Thanks.

You have 90 days from your US Port of Entry (POE) to get married. After that, there is no specific date line to start AOS, however, the general forum recommendation is to start the AOS process as soon as possible after your marriage.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thank you. It is indeed the petition expiration date. The consulate extended it for 4 months from the interview, I am just wondering why did they even put it on the visa if it doesn't matter... I guess it's irrelevant.
