B2 Visa for my Dad

Hello everyone,

Me and my husband were thinking of my Dad to visit in the U.S. for a couple of months, but before we start processing anything I would like to ask few questions with regards to Visitors visa since this will be our first time for my dad to apply for one. The main purpose of applying for tourist visa for my Dad is for him to see all his grandchildren which some of them haven't seen since birth in person and for him to see parts of U.S. He is 63 years old, not employed, no bank accounts, but have some properties back home. We were thinking of petitioning him to come to U.S, but I'm worried that he might not like it here because of the weather. Is it possible for him to get visitor's visa even though he doesn't have bank accounts and employment? I read that he needs to have a strong ties to get approve for a visa. Does having kids, grand kids and some properties enough ties to prove that he is going back? what are the chances of him getting approve or denied with this circumstances? We will assume all expenses before and after he gets to U.S. I don't know if that helps. Thank you all for your input.

Your father will have to prove to the satisfaction of the US consular official at the interviewing US embassy/consulate, that he has significant ties to the Phils. such that he will return to the Phils after his US visit is completed. Such ties could include, property, house ownership, current stable employment, etc. Each visitor visa applicant is presumed to have immigration intent, and must prove that they are not trying to immigrate to the US. A letter from a doctor, any documents from you, or any other invitation-type letter would likely have no positive effect on the visitor visa approval.

Good luck.

It is quite possible. Did it with moms.

Does he have a pension or any form of monetary gain that would compel him to return t his country of origin?

Id steer away from mentioning visiting relatives as the main reason.. More like, tourism, getting to know the place in a temporary and short visit.. THEN mention visiting relatives if you want.

Of course any relatives need to be diclosed in the ds260.. what i mean is dont make it the reason to go.. and please! once the visa is granted and he is questioned when landing in the US, dont have him say he is coming to take care of grandchildren.. thats a no no. Hes coming to tour and to visit.

thank you for your honest reply StuckIn, to answer your question, no he doesn't have any pension or any monetary gain. I will keep in mind what you said about the main reason of why he is visiting. Most of my kids goes to school and my youngest will go to school soon as well. I'm mostly a stay at home Mom, so no taking care of grandchildren for him. We only want him to spend sometime with the kids for him to know his grandchildren, plus he is old he can't handle the kids.

OP,

It goes without saying that the B1/B2 visa is for either business or pleasure purposes. (Visitor Visa) When questioned by the CO as to the purpose of his visit and his purpose is to visit you and his grandchildren than that is how he should answer. If he's "old", it might be more difficult for him to visit/tour the US, rather you've said he wants to visit his grandchildren. Grandchildren primary reason, tour secondary.

Good luck and wishing him success.
