Passport Validity

Hello all, my wife's sister will be moving to Canada with her husband probably in May. Her Visa is good up until June 17. However, her passport expires on June 17 as well (I think or it may be July 17). Anyway, from my understanding she should have no issue entering Canada, but what about Hong Kong for a layover? Also, would it be a good idea to get a new passport even though her permanent resident visa is in the old passport that is ready to expire? I want to make sure they will have no issue entering Canada via layover in Hong Kong.

She has a Philippine passport and the visa was just issued on February 24. I have been searching for quite some time for this answer, haha.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

She can get a new passport and carry both new and hold with her to enter Canada. No need for passport in HK if she is not leaving the airport.

Thanks, Greenbaum, Will the Philippine government keep her from leaving the country if she did not renew or extend her passport since she does not have the 6-month validity?

Yes. Just about every country requires at least 6 months validity remaining on the passport.

She will not be allowed to depart, even airlines has the same policy, passport should be valid at least 6 months from departure.

She have more than enough time to renew now. Expedite processing is only 10 working days (DFA Aseana).

Question on new passport and visa on another passport has been answered.

Not yet, she is still waiting for arrival of her passport and visa before proceeding to the next step. Should she have the CFO sticker in the old passport or the new or does it really matter? I am not sure when she will get the CFO done, apparently there is mobile CFO site in Davao that she plans to go to.

She better double check to see if there is actually a CFO in Davao. Never heard that there is. That's why I am asking. Have her take the CFO and get the certificate of completion then return to either Cebu, Manila or NAIA and get the sticker placed in the new passport after it arrives.

I also questioned it, but she states that her friend is going to one about an hour from Davao. I remember reading a press release that they were doing a CFO mobile site in Davao back in August 2015, but haven't heard of any other since then. But will try to get her to confirm the validity of it.

That was PDOS not GCP, even if they did it again this year it is of no value as she would need GCP - so off to Cebu or Manila for that.

Ahh totally understand, thought that was the same thing....haha. Good to know as she can make the right decision for CFO. Hopefully she is reading this thread.....BTW, how much time do you think she would need to do the CFO then the flight? My thinking is that she can go two or three days before her flight for the seminar and sticker, or is that too close?

IF there are no issues (requesting documents she doesn't have) she could do it the same day if it is an evening flight.

Hank's right about getting the sticker same day barring any additional documents that she doesn't have. Keep in mind she could do the medical, CFO and interview in a 10 day window and then pick up sticker at NAIA when she is on her way to USA. Just another option to maul around.
