Hey Folks, hope everyone is well.

My fiancee and I are getting married tomorrow and I have a couple of questions.

When do apply for her SSN and her new passport with the name change?

September 26, 2016 - EAD and AP Approval Notice Hardcopies Received by Mailbox
October 5, 2016 - EAD case changed to CARD WAS MAILED
October 11, 2016 - Combo Card (EAD/AP) status changed to CARD WAS DELIVERED TO YOU BY THE POST OFFICE
October 11, 2016 - Combo Card received :) when I checked our mailbox at 4pm
October 12, 2016 - Went to SS Office and changed my name to married name
**No Interview for I485 :dancing::idea::dancing:
November 17, 2016 - Green Card status APPROVED and in the afternoon it changed to NEW CARD IS BEING PRODUCED :dancing:
November 23, 2016 - Card was mailed to me
November 25, 2016 - Card was picked up by USPS

Is there a specific reason you need to change the name on the passport? Because honestly I wouldn't bother, when she applies for AOS the GC would come with her updated name so she doesn't really need to use her passport... :)

If they have plans of traveling an updated passport would be nice. The ticket and passport have to be in the same name.

You can apply for a SSN right after marriage. If you mean her Honduras passport she would need to do that either at an embassy here or go back home to whatever office handles that. If you are referring to a US passport she needs to become a US citizen first. For years my wife traveled domestically with just her green card but used her Belarus passport with maiden name to book tickets and travel home.

There is no reason why you couldn't have applied for an SSN before the marriage. In fact, it is unlikely you will easily be able to obtain an SSN after the marriage, until you file to adjust status and obtain an EAD.

It's recommended to apply for a SSN two weeks after you arrive in the US, as you usually need quite some time left on your i-94 for them to agree to give you a SSN. Not sure when your fiancée arrived in the US?

You can use the passport in maiden name. You purchase the ticket in maiden name that matches the passport and carry a copy of your marriage certificate just in case it is needed when re-entering the US with the AP or green card in married name.

OP> You could have applied any time after entry up until you have 2 weeks left on the I-94. You should apply in maiden name(even if already married), as it can be a hassle when applying in married name, mostly because a lot of SSA workers have no clue what they are doing. Some get lucky and get an informed SSA worker, but many are not lucky. You apply for the EAD/AP and green card in married name and can return using the EAD/AP or green card to change the name over on the SSN to the married name later. Do a search here on VJ. There are plenty of posts about it. You can also read through the SSN forum to find lots of info on this topic.

We applied for my wife's SSN the day after we married and received it the following week.
