The stamp is valid until the date associated with it has past. It does mean that you will have to carry your new passport and old passport when traveling internationally until you receive the physical GC.

Thank you, Dave. Darn, my brother in law's passport is about to expire and even though he entered in September 2015, he's still waiting for his green card. The kids and his wife's has been issued, but he's the breadwinner, so he needs it more! He can plan for his next job until he gets it.

Yes, he has called them about every two weeks. His toddler son's card was returned last week for wrong address, although they have the correct address on file. They have told him to wait two more months each time he calls. His papers have been completed by refugee assistance organizations, so he's not so familiar with what they have done or what step he is on.
