My husband had all of his vaccinations and his medical exam in his home country back in October of 2014, and then we came to the US on a K-1 visa. We got married and applied for his AOS in March of 2015. Since that was less than a year, we didn't include an I-693, just his DS-3025 (vaccination documentation). Now a year later, we're finally called in for his AOS interview, coming up in a couple weeks. Since it's now been more than a year since his medical overseas, do we now need to see a doctor and get an I-693? Or will his DS-3025 still be enough?

I had AOS interview a month ago and didn't bring a new medical with me (the previous one had expired) and at the interview they asked me if I brought a new medical and I said no because the instructions in the interview letter didn't say so and then hey told me I had to send them one. I have and now I'm waiting.

My advice is yes, get the medical redone and bring the sealed envelope with you.

If the IO asks you for one at your interview, then you can worry about getting it done at that time. Not everyone is asked for a new medical.

Yeah I was thinking about that too. It sounds like it's sort of up to the person doing the interview, since some people say they needed it and other say they didn't. I think at this point we're running out of time to try to schedule one, so we'll just wait and see if they ask for it when we get there.

It seems to me like it's sort of ambiguous on whether a new one is needed. The instructions say you don't need an I-693 if it's been less than a year since your overseas medical at the time of filing for AOS, but says nothing about the interview later. But our summons to the interview says to bring one if not already filed. That's why I'm confused on whether we need a new medical or not.

It is not supposed to be ambiguous though. The USCIS states their policy clearly. It seems some adjudicators simply do not know the policies they are supposed to follow.

See this post about the USCIS policies for the medical requirements for AOS from a K-1 > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/555299-medical-will-expire-before-the-aos-interview/?p=7703568

The appointment letter is a general blanket letter sent to all AOS applicants, and most require a civil surgeon and an I-693. Those adjusting from a K-1 are some of the exceptions. The letter just points out what is required, in general, for all applicants.

Thanks! I think that's the reason I was worried about it: the I-797C they sent me about the interview said to bring an I-693 unless already submitted. Technically I never submitted one, since it wasn't needed back when I applied for AOS. So that naturally made me worry that I needed to get a new one. Probably the very same reason so many other people get this letter and are suddenly worried about it.

Our interview is coming up on the 23rd. I'll let you guys know if they ask us for a new one or not!

Did they ask you for a new one? How did it go?
