I met my fiancee online on Dec. 15th 2015 and have been using wechat for chats and video calls. I then made a trip to Vietnam on Jan. 29th through Feb. 14th 2016. It was mainly a vacation trip and didn't really think about getting married to someone even though we had chatted. After meeting her and going to her hometown and taking some pictures, we fell in love. Not thinking about it, I didn't think about keeping any of my boarding passes except for the email confirmations of the trip through the airlines.

I am planning to make another trip in May-June 2016 to see her again and to get engaged. I will make sure to take more pictures and keep the boarding passes this time and any other records I can think of.

Do you think it will be an issue with me not having the boarding passes on that first trip? or can I just print the airlines' confirmation email of my trip?

Can anyone else list the things I need to gather from my 2nd trip to reinforce the proof of our relationship?

Also, should I file for the I129-F before my 2nd trip? or wait till after my 2nd trip to file so I can gather more evidence? Just trying to gain some time but don't want to rush it so it doesn't get approved.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I just want to make sure I'm not going to miss anything on my 2nd trip.

Do some reading in the Vietnam regional forum to learn about the meat grinder that is the HCMC consulate. Follow the advice of others that have obtained visas there.

On a personal note, spend as much time together as possible to make sure for the both of you that this is becoming a true, bona fide relationship. Nothing wrong with a whirlwind romance. Be sure that you have the evidence to back up your love story for the interview.

I just went through the whole thing myself. First of all, forget about the first trip, you can only mention it as you met before. Your focus should be on this 2nd trip. This is a list of what i did...

1- Copies of online booking for both airline and Hotel reservations.

2- Copies of boarding passes for the entire trip going and returning.

3- Copies of the final bill at the hotel where you are stayed. Any other receipts.

4-If she is staying with you in the Hotel, be sure to have her name added to the bill on top.

5-Copy of the engagement ring receipt if you are giving her one.

6-Photos of both of you...background of anything that shows it was in Vietnam. Photos of the ring with both of you.

7-Receipts , anything you have used during ur trip.

8- File your petition after you are back from your trip.

9- Prepare all documents she needs while you are together, talk about the entire process and what she needs to make it simple when you are back in the US.

Good luck

I am filing my I-129 this week. I've visited my fiancé in Philippines twice. I don't have any of the boarding passes but I have email conformations for my hotels, plane tickets, and plenty of pictures. Does anyone thing this will be a problem?

Even if you do not have the boarding passes, you have the stamps in your passport that will match up with the receipts, etc. Include pictures of them, and include an entire copy of every page from your passport for the interview if you do not go with her. I have the last set of boarding passes including a pair when we flew to Cebu together, but she will still have everything from my passport to match up if they ask at the interview.

Good Luck,

Scott and Annalyn

Email confirmations mean little. Do you mean confirmations of hotel reservations? Not good enough. Hotel receipts? Good enough. Planet ticket reservations aren't proof that you actually made the trip. Pictures obviously help, and as aratamorne said, you should provide a copy of your passport stamps.

Thank you for the advice. I'll make copies of my passport front to back. I do have a picture of both of us holding our boarding passes with our names both visible on them. I have plenty of pictures with her family, our trips around Philippines, and our proposal l.

What about the tags on your luggage? I didn't have boarding passes either, but they accepted the airline tags which have the dates of entry, city, etc.

How did everything go with you? Did your visa get approved even thought you didn’t have boarding passes?
