Moving to USA Shipment

When I moved to the US from the Middle East, the shipping company added a surcharge of several thousand US$ on top of the regular shipping quote. The original quote included 3 days for the property to clear customs & delivery. It actually took much longer and that is where the companies involved tacked on the high extra charges. I used Allied (Pickford) and now I regret it. Make sure your quote includes at least a 7 day time period for clearing customs and delivery. The shipment did arrive in good shape.

As a Customs broker here in the USA, a decent broker would submit the entry to US customs 5 days before arrival of the HHG/PE

Also by doing this, it saves time, as long as no exams on the cargo. Custom brokers have no control over this or getting the government agency out there to

do the inspection timely.

Call around to export companies, request quotes before just jumping into it. Rates also varies during the seasons.

After 23 years of being a broker, it pays for the importer to do their homework first. Try to get Door to Door service, then you don't have to deal with the delivery of your goods to your home or storage facility.

AOS in the USA.
