My US citizen spouse income alone is not sufficient for sponsorship, however if my (intending immigrant) income is also counted, it is way above poverty line as I am on H1B and have good stable income. I understand I-864 clearly stats that if your combine income is sufficient you don't need to fill out assets part in form. But there is a thin line that if intending immigrant's income wants to be counted it should continue from same source after green card is approved and I don't want to use joint sponsor. Because of that thin line I am considering to declare assets(cash) she has (around 40K) in bank on I-864 even though form stats not to fill out that part because our combined income is sufficient.

Would this be a problem if I declare assets even though our combined income is sufficient but only petitioner's income is not sufficient?

One key factor of using intending immigrant's income is that you need to prove your job will be from same source after you obtain green card, a job contract and/or employer's letter will be sufficient. I-864 is pretty much "paper routine" so once you have your green card, you don't have worry about that anymore. I would not include assets if I can't prove it would be a stable source (house, inheritance...) which checking/saving account is not one (you can clear bank next day.)
