Got our Visa in the 'Ready' status this week at the USEM Manila. Very quick I was surprised! Bless her heart she is having problems getting her passport. First appointment, documents not in order, second appointment, 1 document / ID missing, now she's got a new appointment on April 5th and her Visa is already in the 'Ready' status as of yesterday. I am concerned that she will get her passport at the end of April and her Visa will be close to expiring at her interview time. So frustrating. I think she's starting to learn the importance of being prepared and doing due diligence prior to these appointments. Her mistakes are causing problems now. In the Philippines you need 100s of documents and IDs it seems in order to get anything accomplished. Urgghhh!

My fiance didn't even have her birth certificate when we discussed the prospects of her coming here (lost in a flood) and the only ID she had was a postal. We pretty much had to start from scratch gathering all her passport prerequisites but I wasn't going to start the visa application until she got her passport, because I didn't wan't to find myself in your current situation. However, it really wasn't that hard to get what she needed. Yeah, there are several documents and IDs she needs but they can all be collected within the span of a week or two, if she's diligent about it.

We experienced flood loss too. Unfortunately she never bothered replacing lost documents and IDs. I think what happened is that she simply went to one of her friends who got a passport 2 yrs ago and got her to help her. She never visited DFA website or called them. I don't think she ever made an appointment either, she just showed up one day and said, Hi, I'm here to apply for my passport. Then of course she was given an appointment date 30 days later. She was a little shocked I think. Then she didn't bring one document she needed to the appointment and this delayed her another month. etc and so on. She'll learn now that she has a visa waiting with an expiration date she better get off her rear end and do this right. Lol

I wonder which DFA your fiance is getting her appointments from. When mine applied for her passport, she rescheduled her appointment a couple times. As I remember it, each time, the appointment was set about a week away. 30 days seems pretty long. But then again, she claimed her cousin knew someone who worked there, so that might have had something to do with it.

You know how the Philippines works: you might have to grease someone's palm to get things moving.

I think there is a misunderstanding here; if you are referring to the case status when you check online (visa status check), when it says READY it means that they have received the package from NVC and after you have gathered all the required documents you are READY to schedule the interview. You need to find more information on all the documents and forms that you need to file. Your passport will be ready when you have had your interview, passed and your status changes from READY to ISSUED. ISSUED means your visa/passport are ready.

What? She doesn't have a passport at all. And doesn't know how to get one. That's the problem. Ready means ready to schedule an interview. Can't do that until there's a passport number. Can't pay the fee until there's a passport number. You can't interview without a passport. You can't go to a medical without a passport. We're hosed up because of no passport. I guess she now understands that when I ask her to get her passport in December that's really what I meant for her to do.

There is no requirement to have a passport prior to scheduling an interview when the Visa package status changes to 'Ready'. There is no requirement to submit her passport during the petition process. You must have a passport to schedule an interview, take a medical exam, pay the application fee, complete the DS-160 form.

My bad, you wrote visa ready which is a completely different thing that's what got me a bit confused. Her visa isn't ready at all...nvs is ready.
