I moved to the US almost 2 years ago and I'm just now starting to drive with my temps and hopefully will have my driver's license in this country also. Back in my home country the economy wasn't exactly great so I never had a job, all I would do is helping some junior high kids with their English homework and volunteer at the local elementary school if kids were working on projects and needed adult help/ supervision.
I am not in my mid 20s with no work history, and would love be to able to work as soon as possible. My SO says I will have no problem finding something but I don't even know where to start... is it worth it to make online profiles with my (non existent) curriculum? What web sites should I trust when looking for jobs? Id like to have an office job, I'd be fine starting with answering calls and just being a secretary -maybe I could work for an insurance agency or a doctor's office- but again, I don't know where to start.

If you have any helpful tips regarding how to write my curriculum, how to present myself or... anything really, it will be very much appreciated. I'm sure there must have been other people in the past in the same situation but I don't want to be home anymore and I want to help financially.

What kind of education do you have? Most administrative assistant jobs requires either experience or that you've taken some administrative assistant classes at a college but it could also possibly depend on where you live and what the demand is like.

I'd recommend looking into applying for a job with Starbucks as they offer college degrees, you can apply for jobs on their website. Target and Walmart are also good options to get hired and get some work experience. Maybe something you don't really want but it's a start.

Around where I am you see lots of the big box stores advertising for staff.

What is your country?

What are your qualifications?

High school diploma, which is... something I guess. I'm not entirely sure I can afford school or should go back, after dropping out of college because I choose the wrong thing I'm trying to stay away from school. I don't think I'd do well.

Well, there is a Target around here. I guess I could look into that.

Here in the US it's really good to have more than just a high school diploma if you don't really have that much work experience. But it also depends on the job and where you live. Places like Target and Starbucks doesn't require more than a high school diploma.

Not everyone has the money for higher education...

Community Colleges have programmes for mature students.

Why not try a temp agency? They place you in customer care if you want and they pay is decent to start here in America.

Also, check the website of your local school districts. I tried with the Fort Bend ISD for a behavioral aide's position and I got it. Aide's positions pay 14.50 an hour, which i think is even better. These schools are happy with a high school diploma, but you would have to write two tests to certify you as an aide. These tests are pretty basic and simple.

All the best

Having no work history is going to make finding a job a bit more difficult. However, it's not impossible. Retail, for instance, tends to be pretty forgiving, since it's often a first time job for many people. Also, as an immigrant, it's doubtful that anyone is going to go through the effort of contacting your previous employers overseas to verify, especially if the time-zone is different. Therefor, you can... let's say "get a little creative" with your resume. For instance, if you did a lot of house cleaning back home, that's technically experience as a maid, you know?
