What is the expiry date on your Green Card (Conditional Permanent Resident card)?

I've just entered the US, I dont have a green card yet.

It would be very helpful to verify that your visa says CR1 or K3 now.

Then you dont have to file to remove the conditions for 2 years yet.... you should have got a stamp in your passpost the says I-551... if you do then that is all you need to start working other than a SSN...

Kez

Thanks, you've answered my question!

I'll make some enquires to see if the POE Officer gave me the wrong form.

If you tell us what it says on your visa then we will be able to make sure you are getting the correct advice....

Not sure where you are going to make your inquiry to but CBP officers are not USCIS officers and they often make mistakes in the information they give out....

Holy Zeus.

I suspect that you entered with an Immigrant Visa. You will be required to file I-751 in two years, not now. If you want to work now, work.

Did you try looking at the guides? Try the one on Removing Conditions. But I recommend the DCF Guide to you=--skip about halfway down the page. See if any of it sounds like you and follow on accordingly.

The POE officer did not give you a wrong form.

It is CR1, my mistake for saying K3, I stand corrected!

And as you said it reads, 'Upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year'

Thank you for clearing that up.... ok so have a read of the guides about CR1 it will help to explain things to you...

You should get your Greencard in the mail in a few weeks you will then have to file to remove the condition 90 days before the expiry date on your greencard....

The I-551 stamp is as good as a greencard and allows for both work and foreign travel until your plastic greencard arrives....

The page you need at uscis.gov is called Now That You Are A Permanent Resident. There is a link in the DCF Guide or you can search it from uscis.gov

It explains your new status and your rights and responsibilities.

Thanks for letting me know about that information, I'll read the guide for the CR1, and come back here if I have any more questions.
