Members of Household?

I've filed the I-129f and now I'm getting ready to move on to the financial side of things. Here's my question: Does my roommate count towards household income? I will be moving out before everything is processed. Probably before his interview.

Hi.

As far as I know, household income pertains only to your financial responsibility. If you count your roommate as a financial responsibility, then he/she should be included in your household income.

your roommate would not be included in your household size. Your household size includes you, your dependents, any relatives living with you, and the immigrants you are sponsoring.

they only reason to include your roommate is if they are going to co-sponsor your fiance with you. If you are using the income of other household members to qualify, then each household member who is accepting legal responsibility for supporting your relative must complete a separate financial affidavit.

If you're applying for a K3 visa,

- you will be using the I-134 affidavit of support for the visa application and the concept of 'Household Member' or 'Household Income' does not exist.

- when you get to adjustment of status you will be using the I-864 affidavit of suport and terms Household Member and Household Income are clearly explained on the form and in the instructions (although many people do not like what they read and sometimes go to great lengths to rationalize something different).

Household member is not just "financial responsibility." The fact that they will have the same address makes them a household member.

I moved in with my sister who is married and has 2 kids she supports. They all became my "household members" when I filed the I-864. I had my sister (who is earning) fill out the contract of household member. NVC said my sister is a household member, not a co-sponsor.

NVC collates all the income of the household and then counts the number of members living under the same roof. Then they can tell if the sum of income meets the poverty guideline requirement set for the number of persons.
