Extend K1 Visa

Hi everybody,

Can I extend my K1 visa if I couldn't go to U.S before the expiration date? How long can I extend more?

A K-1 visa validity cannot be extended. There is a slim possibility of getting it re-issued, but you would need to contact the consulate with your reasoning, and it would then be up to them. Your best bet is to make every effort to enter the US with your K-1 before the expiration date on it.

I have seen someone in here getting the k-1 extended. Can't remember why they needed it but they had a good reason, it's a long time ago.

Extended or re-issued? I have not heard of one being extended. Once the visa is printed, the expiration date is on it, and set.

Maybe re-issued I'm meaning. At least so they could enter later then the day in the passport.

Thank you for your all replies, I found this one on HCM consulate's website, but I'm not sure is it possible for K1 visa?

"If the beneficiary is found to be eligible for a visa at the time of the interview.

Generally, a visa’s validity period is the same as the validity of your medical examination. If a beneficiary knows that departure will not be possible within this period, the beneficiary should notify us to delay the visa issuance. The visa issuance can be delayed for up to 1 year from the day of the interview."

We had the same problem. Once issued, no extension. Must be re-issued.

Yes, ask before your visa is issued. They may delay the issuance of the visa for you. Depending on how long you need, you may have to supply a new medical and other documentation. They will tell you what is needed.

your better off passing the interview first then ask for an extension and having them delay the issuance of the visa. Like everyone else stated contact HCM Embassy and provide valid reasons, make sure your medical doesn't expire.

As far as I know the expiration date on the visa is because of the medical, IF they grant you a visa extension you may have to go do another medical report. However, I remember reading on the letter I got from the embassy that they do not grant visa extensions, and if you miss your visa entry date you will have to reapply does k1 all over again.
