The old owner added a ton of soil outside to fix the issue and I think it made it worse, to be honest. This year's project might be attempting to remove it since it goes up a foot against the old siding. It is soo stupid to have done that.

Yes, he's retarded. If it's mounded up against the wall, then yes, remove it with a John Deere 318 tractor with a bucket loader attachment....

you can borrow mine, but Dutch will have to come tow it lol....

Too much karaoke...

Have a meeting in an hour, but no matter how much rissechu I spray on my arm sling I can't get rid of the smell of last night's monjayaki and cigs...might have to buy a spare one...my dry cleaning bill will hit the roof otherwise...

Now I know what you're talking about.

If you have a 1 story house. It's called "lightweight construction"

There is a DIY solution. it's slow, and tedious. Must be done slowly. If the ground outside is below the level of the joist.....you can "underpin" it. Support the joists with a adjustable support(s), cut away a section of the wall. 3- 4 feet at a time. "Build up" the foundation either by pouring concrete, using cinder blocks, or laying a 3 wreathe section of brick. Depending what the existing foundation is made of. This can be done from the inside. there are many types of waterproof, freezeproof materials you can use to assist in filling gaps, etc.....

Nobody builds houses like this, especially in the north. I wonder what the real story is behind the foundation, did it sink over time? Did something change outside? Was the whole town flooded many times to leave sedimentary fill outside that made the ground rise?

But, there's your fix. That's the easiest, cheapest, most correct way possible.

It is a 1 story house. That might be something to look into too, thanks for the tips.

This particular house was built by Swedish immigrants using old parts from the hotel in town before 1920. Up until our diversion was built there were many many many floods, probably at least every 2-3 years that would be at least at the height of that foundation wall. There was a big one in 1996 that filled the entire basement. The construction technique in our basement is common enough in other houses of similar age here.

We discovered last year that if you dig down along the side of the house that the outside dirt level is just simply much too high. The neighbor told us that he told the old homeowners that it was stupid to bring in all that soil, but they did it anyway. They made windows that were at ground level recessed into windowells and like I said, the old siding is buried under dirt. We have maybe the only house that has soil graded up towards the house rather than flat, so it makes sense to remove it.
