so she already sent I-130?

if its not approved wait for approval.

If its approved it means your case already moved from USCIS to NVC.

you will need to contact NVC.

petitioner (your mother) will inform them that her status change and send them copy of citizenship.

My mother (petitioner) is a citizen of America and had stated the process of petitioning for me while she was a resident. she has since been approved and the status of the petition is now NVC. what is the next step and about how long will it take for me to become a permanent resident?

from Jamaica and unmarried. how could it make the wait longer? I thought citizens applications are processed sooner than residents. also, how would being married affect my application?

how old are you and when did your mom file for you?

if you are over 21, then still, petitions have a long wait, the wait is over 7 years now that your mom is a USC

if you marry, the wait is over 10 years

only if you are under 21 and your mom is a USC will things change

I was 29, when she first filed the petition. i'm surprised by this as I know of parent-child petitions of adult children that took far less than 7 years

does it change the process time if I have children?

hi

no, the child would be your derivative and come with you.

unmarried children of legal residents are over 6 years of waiting, and unmarried children of a USC is over 7 years of waiting

if it was a long time ago, petitions were over 5 years of waiting, but now it takes longer

Hi.

There will be no change.

And the answer to your second question is the reason there won't be a change. You are considered an adult now that can take care of yourself, have children of your own, buy a house, or even start a business. Your case is not a high priority to be worked on. If you were a minor you would get higher attention and be able to migrate faster. As for now, nothing you can do but wait. The current wait time is 7 years but it keeps growing there is speculation that it could be longer.
