Our P3 was also delivered through EMS.

After I replied to Rasaco last night, I got an email from EMS saying that a packet was delivered from Guangzhou. I'm so happy but also wondering why would I got an email alert from EMS. I didn't put any email address in my application... Did you guys get any email from EMS?

One more question... Is it true that I can schedule my interview after I deliver the packet back to Guangzhou? Of course also after I pay the interview fee. ;)

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on getting P3! I asked my fiance, and he says he didn't get any email. Just a phone call from EMS. I guess your email address must have been on there somewhere...

Yes, after you return P3 and pay the interview fee, you can go ahead and schedule your interview. Technically, they say that they want you to wait until you get P4, but it seems like everyone on this site just goes ahead and schedules asap.

My fiance called the consulate to ask about this, and they told him they prefer he wait for P4, so that's what we did. However nobody here seems to have had any issues just scheduling right away.

Thanks very much Rasaco. I can't imagine what I would react if I don't have your suggestions or your company...

Just noticed that the packet already in Shanghai but EMS doesn't work on weekends... :(

I don't know what to do after I get P3. I hope they have quite clear directions on paying the interview fee and scheduling the interview.

Yeah, it's confusing. Have you already filled out your DS-160? (https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/)

DS-160 is an online form that P3 will instruct you to fill out. You can get started on that now if you haven't already. Just follow the instructions on the website above.

P3 will tell you to fill that out, and to mail back the confirmation page from DS-160, 2 passport photos, and a copy of your passport. So get all of that ready to go.

After you mail those things back, you will get P4, which for us was just an email, not a physical letter. It will tell you that you should sign up for an interview at the ustraveldocs site. If you have ever visited the US before and a travel company helped book your visa, you will want to get in touch with that travel company to ask them for your password.

For paying the fee on ustraveldocs, I believe you have to pay through CITIC bank. My fiance had never used that bank in the past, and said that even though he just wanted to pay the fee online, he ended up having to go to a bank to talk to someone in person in order to be able to pay online. Maybe others have had better experiences, but he wasn't impressed with this bank.

So, to summarize your next steps:

1. Fill out DS-160

2. Mail them the things they ask for in P3

3. Make sure you have access to your ustraveldocs website account (may be as simple as opening or logging back into an account, or may involve asking a travel company to hand over your password)

4. Receive P4, in my case it was just an email (many people seem to schedule their interview before receiving P4 and don't seem to have any problems)

5. Pay the fee using CITIC bank by following the steps on the ustraveldocs site.

6. View interview calendar on ustraveldocs and book interview! :-D

7. Prepare materials needed for your interview, as outlined in PDF I'm attaching here:

Hi,

My Fiance completed the DS-160 Last night. We were sent a email with instructions to click on the embassy, its just a general page.Do we need to wait for a few more days before we are able to schedule a interview?I am a little lost we only received 1 package to fill out DS-160.We completed that and have the confirmation page, and a email from the embassy with a general link. What do we do next?I thought we need to have medical and fill out other forms,I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like the email you got is P4. So yes, go ahead and schedule that interview! See the steps I listed above. You are at the paying fee and then scheduling interview step now.

As for the medical, out of town people usually do that just a few days before the interview (while in town in Guangzhou). If you live in a big city where you can get the medical done, then I suppose you can go ahead and do that any time between now and your interview.

Rasaco,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. We are gonna get married in USA.But she has not had a request for medical exam yet,or any other information regarding this.Any advice is much appreciated.

You need to: 1. Pay Fee on the ustraveldocs site, 2. Schedule Interview on that website, 3. Have your medical exam done at one of the approved hospitals. Nobody is going to contact you and request that you get the exam. Schedule the interview, and then go for an exam, and bring the sealed envelope they give you to the consulate on your interview day.

Here is what is said about the medical exam in the visa instructions:

Once scheduled for a visa interview, all applicants regardless of age must complete a medical exam and vaccination(s) with one of our designated panel physicians. Medical examinations conducted elsewhere will not be accepted. The medical examination forms will be generated and completed by the panel physician during the exam. Each person who is examined must present his or her own passport and five visa photographs at the time of the exam. Once the medical exam is completed, you will receive a sealed medical report. Medical examination must be completed prior to your visa interview appointment date. It is recommended to contact the panel physician where you plan to take your medical examination to learn about general time frame of receiving a sealed medical report. DO NOT open the envelope as you must bring the sealed medical report to your visa interview. The validity of your visa is tied to your medical exam’s validity. Additional information is provided in the attached medical examination and vaccination instructions.

NOTE: You are not permitted to undergo a medical exam until your interview has been scheduled.

Congrats Chris!!! It's very thoughtful for you to travel to China and do all of this for your future Mrs.

I'm still waiting for my P4... It has been a week after the consulate received my packet. Don't know how long does it take......

BTW, did your fiance bring her resume to the interview? I was told that might be needed during the interview...

Thanks.

Still waiting for my P4.... Really wonder how long does it to proceed P4 from P3...

CGI Stanley almost has no more slot for K1 visa. So I really don't want to reschedule my interview unless I have to...

...

...

No more worries...

...

However, I do have a question...

My fiance is currently a grad student in UCSD. He has a job offer in San Francisco which starts in July. His father is willing to be our financial sponsor. So he delivered his 3-year tax returns and I-134 and other required documents thanks to VJ to me. Does my fiance still need to deliver his I-134 to me? He is planing to scan me his offer to let me bring with.

Any help is appreciated!!!

Not sure why P4 is taking longer. It's an email, not a letter, so at least you don't have to worry about it being lost in the mail. Check your junk folder?

For the affidavit (I-134) you DO need one from him, regardless of him having a sponsor.

I am also a student, also having a family member help sponsor. So, I provided my I-134, and a reference letter from my bank. Because I have a scholarship that provides a stipend, I also had a letter from my scholarship provider and a letter from my school certifying that I am a student in good standing, receiving a scholarship. Of course, I also gave him my last 3 tax returns/W2s. For the I-134, because I believe you are supposed to have original signatures on these documents, I printed two copies, and signed each of them and mailed them to him. They just arrived there yesterday, exactly when DHL promised me they would!

Yes, definitely have him bring the offer letter from his new job.

Hope that helps!

Yes Rasaco. That's very useful. I checked my junk folder everyday for at least 3 times. And my fiance is planing to scan me his I-134 instead of mailing it to me. I was told that wouldn't be a big issue. I don't know...

Thanks Chris but I can't open the link... I don't think I get the P4 because I had my fiance wrote to Guangzhou consulate. They replied on Monday saying that they haven't received my Packet... But I checked yesterday(Tuesday) on ceac.state.gov. My case status is changed to AP again which was updated the day before yesterday... When I checked again today, it updated yesterday but still AP. I kind of confused... might have worry at the same time...

You need the real I-134 when I was there a couple got told they needed one with fresh signature. If it looks scanned they will give you an RFE. Please make sure he mails it to you, or comes in person to visit with it.

I was also advised by a few China members here not scan or fax a copy over, they want the one with the ink signature.
