Hello!

I wanted to post a review about my DMV experience in Syracuse, NY. I went in yesterday with my husband to hand in my Canadian (Ontario) drivers license to get my NY state one.

I've submitted my AOS but haven't received my NOA1 yet. I went in with my marriage certificate, my SSN card (married name), my passport, K-1 visa, and a copy of my I-94. The end result was that they were able to give me a temporary NYS license valid for a year from yesterday's date. They said as soon as I get my green card I can come in and get the temporary status removed. If my green card doesn't come within a year I can come in with my EAD and they can extend my license to my EAD expiry since it will be valid for longer.

Anyway, overall it was a fabulous experience! My card should be here in about 2 weeks!

Hey BWise,

I see that you are about 2 hrs from me (Medina NY/Orleans County). I had huge headache trying to change my ONT drivers license over to a NY state one and it took awhile. Nice to see that the folks in Syracuse know what to do. Maybe because Syracuse is a university town, they are more informed about switching drivers license's over. The MV office that I went to in Albion had no clue what they were doing and had to call Albany NY to figure out how to do the switch.

I haven't gotten a notification yet! I'm hoping next week. I've been reading in forums that it's been taking about 10 days. Hold tight! :)

Oh no! I'm so sorry you had a bad experience! The guy was telling me that they have to know a lot of immigration stuff. Syracuse is so close to the border that I'm sure they get this a lot. I'm glad yours eventually worked out for you though!
