hi, all:

my fiancee asked me about this question today and i had no idea so i'm pulling some ideas off you guys.

my fiancee went to London for her master degree a couple of years ago. after that she went back to China. she's wondering if she needs to get her diploma (already in English) notarized in case the Chinese consulate doesn't approve it. what do you think, does she need to do that?

also, would it be beneficial for her when she looks for a job in the States if she gets the diploma notarized? Do companies here require some kind of government official proof of any foreign (including Britain) diploma during hiring process?

thanks much

I don't think the consulate really cares about her diploma. What they will be most interested in, is her police record, or better, lack of a police record in the UK while she was attending school. As to employers, they can easily contact the university to verify the authenticity of the diploma.

With the ease of providing false diplomas in today's job market, employers are becoming more familiar with contacting schools directly to confirm claims of degrees. The diploma is important as to providing the prospective employer the date of graduation and thereby improving the chance of verification.

Congratulations to her on this great achievement.

consulate? no.

American employers and Universities...yes. Stewart had to have his AUstralian degree "Translated" into AMerican basically. There are transcript evaluation services that will do it for you...for a fee.

We used JS Silny and Associates but there are dozens.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
