I've worked a few different places in the last few years, and as a result am a member of a couple of different workplace pension schemes and there seems to be some confusion about how to handle them while immigrating.

I know that the two options are to leave your pensions where they are or to transfer them to a Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme. However, one provider I spoke to was adamant that you can't transfer the money invested until the age of 55. (I know you can't encash until then, or at least that you shouldn't, but I thought a transfer would be alright.)

What are people's thoughts/approaches? Is there any advantage to keeping them in the UK vs moving them to the US? A part of me would feel better with the funds 'closer' to hand - i.e. in the US - but I don't know if that's actually sensible.

May not be practical unless we are talking about mega dosh, you are looking at QROP's and for most normal ish people the minimum bar would be too high and the tax issues challenging.
