Priority dates don't mean anything for CR-1 visas so just ignore that. The NOA1 date is the only one to care about at this stage.

PS: you said you got NOA1 in March but sent it in april ... So something is off with your dates

Now you're at Nebraska it's just a case of waiting about 5 months with us all.

Got married: 26th Sep 2013

I-130 Petition Process:

Sent petition to USCIS Chicago lockbox (via in-laws to put check in US$): 11 Mar, 2016

NOA1: 24 Mar, 2016 (email notification 30 Mar. Hardcopy 11 Apr)

Service Centre: NEBRASKA

NOA2: 3rd Aug 2016

Petition sent to NVC: 18th Aug 2016

NVC Stage

Case number assigned: 8th Sep 2016

Paid AOS Fee: 9th Sep 2016

Paid IV Fee: 14th Sep 2016

DS-260 submitted: 25th Jan 2017

Expedite requested: 25th Jan 2017

Expedite approved (consulate only): 1st Feb 2017

Scan Date: 31st Jan 2017

Case Complete: 14th April 2017 (10 weeks 4 days)

Full expedite approved (bypass NVC to send file to embassy), however too late as I already had case complete 17th Apr 2017

Case arrived at Embassy: 21st April 2017

P4 letter received: 26th April 2017 (expedite at embassy stage so this came from the consulate, not NVC)

Because there's a stack of papers and people can only work so fast.

The USCIS has an adjudication manual online somewhere. You could google it I'm sure.

As for the rest, read the guides in the wikis.

All the information you need is there.

And what they basically do with the petition what do they check and why to they take that long like 5 months

Just takes that long to get to yours in the pile and check everything is there to pass it onto NVC. And send RFEs for missing info.

That's why it's literally just a waiting game

Yes, I know. What I mean is if you want to be together very quickly did you not consider a K1 visa before you married? I hate the wait just as much as everyone else but it doesn't make much sense to complain about the length of separation if you had the K1 option before you got married.

We looked into K1 and although it had the advantage of being able to live together sooner, it wasn't right for us because we can't afford for me not to work as I make a lot more than my husband. He makes minimum wage. Also I wasn't happy to have no real status in the country for several months. So although we are stuck with this awful wait, I take comfort in the fact that it's a superior visa which is better for us and my status on arrival will be LPR, with full employment and travel rights.

I understand your point however he wasn't trying to move here because he's financially stable and got a lot going for him there. The main aim was me to finish school and see where I can secure a better job and see what's next but life is unpredictable and as much as we plan it, it has surprises for us. Now we're looking to start a family and other things so by weighing all options for right now, it's better at least he can come in the country anytime he want. I swear if they will grant him just an ordinary visa, our lives will be much easier. Ghana embassy keeps getting tougher and tougher.
