I just read bout DCF. My husband and I lived together for 6months in Malaysia during his last visit. We got married during that period. However he has returned to USA for work. So we missed the boat! We didn't know about this DCF process at all. Arghhh...? Where can I check which countries accept DCF. I'm a Malaysian.

Check under Embassy Info..Malaysia doesn't do DCF so don't beat yourself up. Things are moving up fast. They are approving first week of January now...

Hello, what's DCF? You got your NOA2 in a month! Any tips? Congrats!

DCF is Direct Consular Filing. Only certain countries with a US embassy can use this method. They are filing in the country and bypassing the USCIS and NVC. They only deal with the embassy if I am correct. Its much faster than us and why they cant be used in our statistics.

Dang ya'll beat me to it! Hahah K was typing that for a while.... haha

Ok..but the K3 is no longer in use...

It takes the same amount of time as 130 that's why most people just pursue 130 to avoid fees when the partner gets here. It's still in use and know couple people who have used it recently. I just decided to kill one bird with two stones and I don't mind which one gets ready first.

Well it's twice as expensive, the beneficiary has to wait to work, and it may save you a month or two tops. Really it's an inferior visa when it does go through and rarely have I seen a real reason for it to. I can think of maybe twice on the board where it made sense beyond the "omg I want my spouse here faster." LOL

Keep in mind because it requires an adjustment of status it's not just the wait to the green card that takes longer, but to ROC (if applicable) and citizenship (if desired.)

You typed so much that I don't really care about. I know people who came with immigrant visa that couldn't find a job till 10 months later. Well I just need to see his face here and that's all matter for now. It cost me approximately $3000 for each trip I make to see him and I try at least once( have done twice before) each year. Well I will be happy to use that money to adjust status here for him for once. Thanks for your input since this journey is "to each is his/her own". Edited by Caykay1

Did you consider a K1? That's even faster.

some of us just want our spouse to be here already. I dont see the point in a spouse taking over a year to come whereas fiance and other visa holders can have their spouses in a few months. It makes no sense at all

K1 - faster to visa

CR1 - faster to green card

Is what it is.

It is and my post wasn't directly related to you, but rather informative for your entire group of people (aka March 2016 filers...) I happened to quote you because I wanted to clarify your post, not because it was a reply. I apologize if you were confused.

We are already married and k1 is for fiance/fiancée only I believe.

Yes, I know. What I mean is if you want to be together very quickly did you not consider a K1 visa before you married? I hate the wait just as much as everyone else but it doesn't make much sense to complain about the length of separation if you had the K1 option before you got married.

We looked into K1 and although it had the advantage of being able to live together sooner, it wasn't right for us because we can't afford for me not to work as I make a lot more than my husband. He makes minimum wage. Also I wasn't happy to have no real status in the country for several months. So although we are stuck with this awful wait, I take comfort in the fact that it's a superior visa which is better for us and my status on arrival will be LPR, with full employment and travel rights.
