I went to my husband's interview and CO did ask me to give him original of my divorce certificate. I never received it back.

I couldn't edit my previous response here is the form you need https://www.uscis.gov/g-884

Google really is your friend, so many simple answers could be answered here if people utilized this tool more often. I had to get my original BC back from USCIS(I sent it by mistake instead of the copy), I used this form and had it back within 60 days

Reading this thread has raised some concerns for me as some here are using the term "originals". I hope someone can confirm or answer my question. My understanding is: The court keeps the original forms on file (or on microfiche in days long ago), thus it is impossible for anyone but the courts to have "an original". The court clerk mailed me a copy of the Judgment and the Notice of Entry of Judgment. The Notice of Entry of Judgement includes, as part of the form, a "Clerk's Certificate of Mailing" that states "I certify that I am not party to this cause and that a copy of the foregoing was mailed first class, postage prepaid, in a sealed envelope addressed as shown below, and that the mailing of the foregoing and execution of this certificate occurred at (place) on (date)". It is then signed or rubber stamped with the clerk's signature. My question is: Does this make my copies "Certified copies" or "Original copies"? .... or do I need to request a copy from the court that has a special seal or embossment indicating that it is a certified copy? Moreover, if the latter is required, will that cause problems at the Interview, since they wouldn't be exact copies of what I filed with my petition? (I filed copies of the original-copies that I received directly from the courts when my divorce(s) were complete.

Thank you.

Hi there.

You will get approved when they see the original divorce papers

I have sent an email to embassy stating i have the original

papers and want to have second interview.

Theres a form requesting originals sent back to you. I

Best regards

It clearly differs from embassy to embassy. In the checklist we get from the embassy in Sweden it says to bring:

"MARRIAGE TERMINATION/DIVORCE DECREE(S): If you or your fiancé(e) were married previously, obtain one certified copy of the divorce decree(s) or death certificate(s) to prove the dissolution of each of such prior marriage. If applicable, please note that most petitions only include a regular copy of the divorce decree(s) so please make sure to bring the certified copy at the time of interview."

Luckly we checked these things early on so I could get it with me home after visiting my fiancé in the US, one less thing that needs to be shipped to me.

Same in Ciudad Juarez in Mexico

The "original" is the copy that contains the original signature.. not a photocopy.. SO the couple always get the original copy. There can be multiple original copies.

Thank you everyone for the support it was just such a let down after all the waiting to not have the definite answer. After talking with my fiancé he said the CO told him the interview was perfect and that she judged everything to be true, shook his hand and congratulated him on our engagement and that he would receive his passport with the visa along with the sealed envelope for POE after my originals were received. I just checked DHL and the package is in Paris and will be delivered on Monday. Now we have our fingers crossed that it will be reviewed this week and final approval issued.

Once we know for sure we both will do a Snoopy Happy Dance. :)

Our wedding is scheduled for May 21st do you think it's safe to order the invitations? I would like to have them sent out 2 months in advance.

I understand how you feel. I sent an original divorce decree with my I-129f petition. One would think if it was an issue you would've got an RFE before NOA2.

Oh well don't stress now. You'll be with your fiance soon!

Oh, good you sent an original DD too in the i-129f petition. My fiance did even if i told him to send only a photocopy.

If you sent the original in the petition, did you still have to bring this to the interview?

This thread is 2.5 yrs old.   To answer your question, you follow the instructions that the Embassy requires.  If they say original then that is what you provide.

YMMV
