Hello everyone!

I just passed the interview for naturalization (N-400) in the Fargo, North Dakota office.

Everything went well except one thing: I was told by the IO that I would have to wait AT LEAST 2-3 months before even receiving the letter with the date of my oath ceremony. This seems like a hugely long time.

Their explanation was that ''There are a lot of people waiting ahead of me'' and that they send all their paperwork to be processed in the Bloomington, MN office.

Has anyone else heard anything similar, or does anyone have any Fargo naturalization experiences to share? Is it typical for it to take this long just to wait for the oath letter here in North Dakota--or anywhere else?

I am really trying to plan a trip to see family this spring; this process has been so long and frustrating that it has been impossible to plan any travel anywhere. :(

Thank you for any feedback!

I have a co-worker who is in the same situation as you. She passed her citizenship test last month and is still waiting for the letter for the date of her oath ceremony.

She was told it was because there's not a lot of people from the ND area so they are waiting til they can get enough people to "make it worth it". So who knows the real reason

Hope this helps :)

Greetings from Bismarck!

I had my interview in Fargo ND too,on 02/8/16,the IO gave me "the decision cannot be made yet" and he said he gives everyone same thing, but after a week i called the 1800 number, and i was told my Application is been approved on the same day i was interviewed. He also said it will take couple of months before I get an oath ceremony,he said some people waited 6 months to a year for oath ceremony in Fargo. This will will be a month since I had my interview and so far nothing yet.I guess naturalizing in North Dakota was a bad idea.I had friend in New York and filed same date in September 2015,but they're now citizens and am still waiting for an oath letter,it really sucks.

So let me know is there any progress with your case.I will also do same, when did u file?and when did u have your interview?

I applied for naturalization in October 2015...my interview was yesterday, March 3 2016. All in all this has been around a six month process.

I was hoping that maybe the IO who interviewed me was just not very nice and didn't want to give me a real timeline, but if it looks like the wait times really are that long around here then I guess she was unfortunately telling the truth. :(

After researching I haven't been able to find out if they have even had any oath ceremonies in ND this year- the last one I found a record of was September 2015. I did find a calendar of the oath ceremonies organized by the Saint Paul field office (which covers all of ND, SD, MN and I think parts of Wisconsin) but I guess it isn't really relevant to people in this situation.

Yea it really frustrating to naturalize here in ND,i will not be surprise if we have to wait until September,The IO who interviewed me couldn't give me the timeline either,he just told me it will take a couple of months, and i asked how many months? He said it could take 6 months or a year for some people.I have travel plans but right now I don't know what to do about it,the process for me is 7 months.thats too long to naturalize.

I also had my status change online today, but I am in the middle of moving and changing my address and am really wondering when the actual date of the oath ceremony will be...

Did you get the actual letter with the date on it yet?

The status update that uufarouk describes means that the applicant is now inline for an oath ceremony, and does not mean that a ceremony has actually been scheduled. Notice the language used in the first sentence. When an applicant is scheduled for an oath ceremony, the status update will say that a ceremony has been scheduled. Also note that the update says that the letter will be received within 30 days of when it is mailed, but does not say that a letter has been mailed.

Sometimes the Oath Scheduled update never shows up online, so you may just find a letter in the mail, but I didn't want you to think that this update meant that an oath had been scheduled. It does, however, mean that final approval of the application has been completed… if you remember, at the interview the three results are denial, no decision, or recommendation for approval. Even this last option requires final review, which is now done (sometimes it's done on the same day for those given same day oath letters and/or ceremonies).

Agree with Jimmy. When the Oath is scheduled the online status message reads:

"We scheduled your oath ceremony for Receipt Number NBC**********. We sent a notice with the date, time, and location of your oath ceremony to the address you gave us......................"
