If the birth certificate has a mis-spelling, get it corrected, start with the local register where she was born.

All documents should follow the name on the BC.

Get a corrected birth certificate with the proper authorities if possible.

If not able to do this, in order to prevent an RFE delay, you may do the following... Get an official letter from the proper authorities stating that they cannot make the change. Include a notarized letter with you application packet stating reason why the misspell occurred (ie entry error.) Also include 2 secondary proof of relationship with your mother like a notarized letter from a older relative present at your time of birth or school record showing you and your mothers name, pictures together throughout your younger years. In the application form, make sure the misspelled name is written in the alternate name section (as they like to know all names for security checks.)

Why did you use a birth certificate with wrong information? Why didn't you get it corrected before submitting it to the US Embassy. Your laziness is coming to bite you in the rear.

This should be a warning to others who want to play by the rules in their countries instead of following US laws.

hi! have done the same name correction for my Brother (our Mom's name was misspelled on his BC, Mom is the petitioner).

Any of your siblings or your mom can process this.

1. bring BC (your BC and your mom's BC) to the local civil registrar where your birth was recorded. Bring official docs to show your mother's correct name.

2. she will fill out a form, pay P1000 (maybe higher now, I processed 3 yrs ago)

3. LRC will process the amendment, forward it to NSO / PSA

4. check with PSA/ NSO after a month if the changes has been made

Does she already have a passport? You can use that as proof of her correct name.

This is common in the Philippines since of course when a mom gave birth, it is a relative or some uncle/ auntie, grandparents register the child's birth. These persons just based the name how it was pronounced or some even write nick names (how they called the person).

Any discrepancies should be corrected when it was first noticed specially if there are future immigration intent. the process is not complicated but it will take time.
