Waiting for a visa

Hi

I petitioned as an American citizen for my South African son (unmarried and over 21) in March 2009.

Paperwork is complete, everything is in order - except every month there is no interview date!? When I called the first time I was told that they were waiting to hear from the Consulate when they had a slot and that the schedule was only received at the end of every month. At the next call they said they were waiting for a visa number. At today's call it was to be advised that they were waiting for a visa to become available.

Can someone please explain this to me, as I don't understand how we've already been waiting 6 months and still no interview date/visa? My process was much more fluid, so am unsure why my son's is dragging out so long.

Thank you!

Obviously your case is different as you came over as a spouse (judging by your timeline - a K3). Your unmarried child over 21 is not in the same category as you were. The visa wait time will be much different.

Have you checked into the wait times for children over 21?

Good luck

Yes Canadian Wife, you are correct on all accounts. When I called the lady spoke of some list I should check and this is what I am asking about - where do I find the updated list?

I am also wondering about his visa category, which is F1. Are these being processed any faster than the F2B?

Hip hip HooRAY - my son arrived yesterday on his F1 visa.

I am now unsure how he must go about to obtain his green card. He was told by a government official at the airport that his green card is activated as soon as he arrives in the country. But he was told it could take 2-6 months for his green card to be received.

During another part of his immigration process he was told to complete paperwork when he arrived here, so that his green card could be processed and sent to him.

I am not sure which advise to believe - 2-6 months sounds uncharacteristically long and as he was not provided with the relevant paperwork, I am inclined to think that this information was incorrect.

Does anyone know what the final stage is here?

Thank you!

The stamp on his visa in his passport acts as a temporary green card whilst you wait for the real one to arrive in the mail. Did you pay the $165 green card production fee?
